We’re getting ready for a trip to Europe. That trip includes a time in London, a cruise to four Northern European countries and a time in Paris. in the process of preparing we’re coming up with strategies to defend against pickpockets in London and Paris. One tip that we picked up while watching this video was to put locks on backpack, crossbody bag and purse zippers.

Needing to have a key to open a zipper on my backpack doesn’t sound that appealing, but at the same time I like the idea of securing zippers so they’re more difficult to access. Doing some digging I found these clips. These will add an extra level of protection without requiring a key. After all, a lock isn’t going to protect the contents if the bag is completely stolen anyway. These are easy to break off. The idea is to make it more difficult to open the zipper and these clips do that.

Beyond using these for anti-theft, I can see these being helpful for securing luggage zippers against accidentally opening during checked luggage handling and security backpack zippers on a regular basis. I know a zipper working it’s way open and something falling out is unlikely, but I still get concerned when I have things like cash and passports in zippered pockets.
