Gorilla Tape To-Go: Heavy-Duty Mini Duct Tape for Travel, 2-Pack – On Sale For $7.88, $3.94 Each

Gorilla Tape, Mini Duct Tape to-Go, 1" x 10 yd Travel Size, Black, (Pack of 2)

Gorilla Tape To-Go: Heavy-Duty Mini Duct Tape for Travel

Duct tape can do a lot of things… a lot of things. It even helped bring Apollo 13 safely back to Earth. 🙂

For travel, duct tape can be a trip-saver in much smaller but still very real ways. After an airline shredded most of my luggage before a cruise out of Miami, duct tape became the way I kept my suitcase closed for the rest of the trip. Ever since then, I have considered a small amount of duct tape one of those emergency items that is worth having along.

The problem is that a full-size roll is bulky and awkward to pack. Gorilla Tape To-Go provides a more travel-friendly option. These compact rolls are only 1 inch wide, but they still give you the heavy-duty adhesive and reinforced construction associated with Gorilla Tape.

Check Current Price & Availability →

Why Pack Gorilla Tape To-Go?

A regular roll of duct tape is useful, but it takes up more suitcase space than most travelers want to give it. That makes it easy to leave behind, even though a few feet of strong tape could make a big difference when luggage or other travel gear is damaged.

Gorilla Tape To-Go reduces the roll to a more packable size. Each roll is 1 inch wide and includes 10 yards of tape. That gives you enough for multiple temporary repairs without bringing a full-size roll.

This is not something you pack because you expect your suitcase to break. You pack it because when something does go wrong, strong tape may be the easiest way to keep an item usable until you get home or can make a proper repair.

What You Get

This Amazon listing is for a two-pack of black Gorilla Tape To-Go.

  • Two compact rolls of Gorilla Tape
  • Each roll measures 1 inch wide by 10 yards long
  • Black color
  • Double-thick adhesive
  • Strong reinforced backing
  • Weather-resistant outer shell
  • Designed to be torn by hand
  • Compact size for luggage, backpacks, vehicles and emergency kits

Because this is a two-pack, you can split the rolls up. Keep one in your primary travel bag and the other in your car, checked luggage or emergency kit.

Good Travel Uses for Gorilla Tape To-Go

Travel can create small problems that are difficult to fix when you are away from your normal tools and supplies. Gorilla Tape To-Go can provide a temporary solution for situations like these:

  • Damaged luggage: Reinforce a tear, hold down a loose section or help keep a damaged suitcase closed.
  • Loose straps: Temporarily secure a loose luggage or backpack strap.
  • Torn travel gear: Patch a small rip in a bag, rain cover, packing cube or similar item.
  • Broken packaging: Reseal a torn box, pouch or other container until it can be replaced.
  • Temporary labels: Mark luggage, storage containers or travel equipment with a permanent marker.
  • Outdoor gear: Make a temporary repair to camping, hiking, boating or beach equipment.

I would not expect Gorilla Tape to replace a real repair. That is not the point. The point is having something compact that can keep damaged gear functional long enough to finish the trip or get home.

Heavy-Duty Tape in a Travel-Friendly Size

Gorilla Tape To-Go is heavier and more substantial than the thin utility tape included in some basic travel repair kits. It uses a thick adhesive, reinforced backing and a weather-resistant shell.

That construction can be helpful for damaged luggage, loose straps and uneven surfaces where lightweight tape may not hold as well. The 1-inch width is also useful for travel because it is easier to wrap around handles, reinforce seams and make smaller controlled repairs.

When a wider patch is needed, two or more strips can be placed side by side. Large tears may take more work than they would with standard-width duct tape, but the narrower roll is much easier to pack.

Cruise Uses

Gorilla Tape To-Go is a good fit for cruising because once you are on the ship, you cannot always run to a store for repair supplies. You may be able to find basic items onboard or in port, but that is not always convenient.

For cruises, I would use it for travel-related problems such as damaged luggage, torn packing cubes, loose straps, toiletry bag repairs and damaged excursion gear. It may also be useful before embarkation if a suitcase pocket or handle needs a quick temporary fix.

One important note: I would avoid applying Gorilla Tape to cruise cabin walls, doors, furniture or painted surfaces. Its strong adhesive may leave residue or damage the finish. It is better suited to your own belongings.

Gorilla Tape To-Go vs. Flat-Roll Travel Duct Tape

Gorilla Tape To-Go and flat-roll travel duct tape solve the same general problem in different ways.

Gorilla Tape To-Go is the better fit when you want a recognized heavy-duty tape in a compact traditional roll. Its 1-inch width works well for straps, seams, handles and smaller repairs.

Flat-roll duct tape packs more neatly in a thin pocket or small emergency pouch. It may also be available in wider sizes that cover larger tears more quickly.

Gorilla Tape emphasizes strength and durability, while flat rolls emphasize the smallest possible packing profile. Both are easier to travel with than a full-size roll.

Where to Pack It

Keeping a roll in your checked suitcase makes sense for repairs during a trip, but it will not help if your luggage is damaged before you retrieve it at baggage claim.

Because this listing includes two rolls, I would split them up. Keep one in a carry-on, backpack or personal item and the other in a checked suitcase, vehicle or travel emergency kit. A small zippered pouch will help prevent the roll from unwinding or sticking to nearby items.

Things to Know Before Using It

Gorilla Tape is designed for a strong hold, so it should be used carefully around delicate belongings and finished surfaces.

  • Use it primarily as a temporary repair.
  • Apply it to a clean and dry surface whenever possible.
  • Avoid hotel and cruise cabin walls, furniture and painted finishes.
  • Test cautiously before using it on delicate fabrics or coated materials.
  • Be aware that heavy-duty adhesive may leave residue.
  • Do not use it as an electrical safety repair.
  • Do not apply it directly to skin as a substitute for medical tape.
  • Properly repair or replace damaged safety-critical equipment as soon as possible.

For most travelers, the best use is simple: keep a compact roll available for temporary repairs to your own gear.

Final Thoughts

Gorilla Tape To-Go gives travelers access to heavy-duty repair tape without requiring the space of a full-size roll. Its compact 1-inch width works well for luggage, straps, seams and other smaller repairs, while each roll still provides 10 yards of tape.

The two-pack is particularly useful because you can keep a roll in more than one location. One can stay in your carry-on or backpack while the second lives in a checked bag, vehicle or emergency kit.

Duct tape is not the most exciting thing to pack, but it can become incredibly valuable when luggage or gear is damaged far from home. For the amount of space it requires, Gorilla Tape To-Go is a sensible addition to a travel repair kit.

Cozy Essential Compression Bags: Save Luggage Space Without a Vacuum, 16-Pack – On Sale For… $9.99, Save 47%!

Cozy Essential Compression Bags for Travel

Cozy Essential Compression Bags: Save Luggage Space Without a Vacuum

Bulky clothing can quickly consume the available room in a suitcase. Cozy Essential Compression Bags provide a simple way to reduce that bulk without carrying a vacuum or separate air pump.

Pack the bag, close the double-zip seal and roll it to force excess air out. The resulting package can be easier to fit into checked luggage, a carry-on or a cruise cabin storage space.

No Vacuum or Pump Required

These are roll-up compression bags rather than traditional vacuum storage bags. Air escapes as the filled bag is rolled, allowing clothing to occupy less room inside your luggage.

That makes them especially convenient for travel. You do not have to find a vacuum before leaving home, and you can recompress everything in a hotel room or cruise cabin before the return trip.

Check Current Price & Availability →

What Comes in the 16-Pack?

The set includes three bag sizes:

  • 6 large bags: Approximately 27.5″ × 19.5″
  • 6 medium bags: Approximately 23.5″ × 15.7″
  • 4 small bags: Approximately 19.5″ × 13.8″

The different sizes make it possible to separate shirts, pants, undergarments, outerwear and other items rather than putting everything into one oversized bag.

Useful for Cruises and Other Travel

Compression bags can be particularly helpful when packing bulky items such as sweaters, jackets, sweatshirts and extra layers. They can also make it easier to organize clothing for a longer cruise or multi-stop vacation.

Other practical uses include:

  • Separating clean clothing from laundry
  • Organizing outfits by traveler or destination
  • Containing clothing inside a suitcase if toiletries leak
  • Compressing clothes for the trip home
  • Storing extra clothing in a cruise cabin or hotel room

The clear material also lets you see what is inside without opening every bag.

Compression Saves Space, Not Weight

One important packing reminder: compression bags reduce the amount of space clothing occupies, but they do not make anything lighter.

It can become surprisingly easy to overpack when more clothing fits into the suitcase. Check the packed bag with a luggage scale before heading to the airport.

Compression Bags or Packing Cubes?

Compression bags and packing cubes solve slightly different problems. Packing cubes are excellent for organization and repeated access during a trip. Roll-up bags are better at removing air from soft, bulky clothing.

Compression bags may also wrinkle clothing more than a loosely packed cube. A practical approach is to use compression bags for bulky or less wrinkle-sensitive items while keeping dress shirts, dresses and other delicate clothing in packing cubes or garment folders.

How to Use Cozy Essential Compression Bags

  1. Place dry clothing inside the bag without overfilling it.
  2. Keep sharp objects away from the plastic.
  3. Close the double-zip seal completely.
  4. Run the included zipper slider across the seal two or three times.
  5. Roll the bag firmly from the zipper end to push air through the one-way outlet.
  6. Unroll the compressed package and place it inside your luggage.

Taking a little extra time to close the seal completely will help prevent air from working its way back into the bag.

A Simple Space-Saving Packing Option

The Cozy Essential 16-Pack Compression Bag Set offers a pump-free way to reduce the volume of clothing in your luggage. The assortment of sizes is useful for cruises, flights, road trips and general household storage.

They will not replace thoughtful packing or increase your airline weight allowance, but they can make bulky clothing considerably easier to organize and fit into a suitcase.

STACKING Deals on Kitsch 2-in-1 Shampoo Bar and Body Wash – Great for Travel!

Kitsch 2-in-1 Shampoo and Body Wash Bar

Travel Hack: Kitsch Bars for Cruises, Carry-On Packing and Leak-Free Toiletries

Kitsch bars are an easy travel hack for simplifying your cruise toiletry bag. Instead of packing multiple liquid bottles of shampoo, conditioner and body wash, these solid bars give you a compact alternative that is easier to pack and less likely to make a mess in your luggage.

The travel advantages are simple: solid bars do not leak like liquid toiletries, they do not take up room in your TSA liquids bag, and they can weigh less than comparable liquid products because you add water at the time of use.

For cruise packing, that combination makes a lot of sense. Cruise cabin bathrooms are small, luggage space is limited, and nobody wants to open a suitcase to find shampoo or body wash leaked onto their clothes.

Why Kitsch Bars Are a Smart Travel Hack

One of the things I recommend in my cruise packing list is bar shampoo and conditioner. Liquid toiletries are one of the easiest places to overpack, especially if you are flying to your cruise port and trying to stay within carry-on limits.

Shampoo, body wash, conditioner, face wash and lotion can quickly fill a carry-on liquids bag. They also add weight, take up space and create a leak risk inside your luggage.

Kitsch bars help simplify that part of packing. Since they are solid, they can go in a toiletry bag, dopp kit or shower caddy without the same spill concerns as bottles of liquid shampoo, conditioner or body wash.

Two Kitsch Bar Options for Travel

There are a couple different ways to use Kitsch bars for travel. The simplest option is the Kitsch 2-in-1 Shampoo and Body Wash Bar. That one can replace both shampoo and body wash for many travelers.

Another option is the Kitsch Shampoo and Conditioner Bar Set. That gives you separate solid shampoo and conditioner bars, which may be a better fit if conditioner is an important part of your regular hair-care routine.

Option 1: Kitsch Shampoo and Body Wash Bar

Kitsch Clarifying Shampoo Bar

The Kitsch Shampoo and Body Bar is a solid 2-in-1 toiletry bar designed for hair and body use. For travel, that makes it especially useful because it can replace both liquid shampoo and liquid body wash in your toiletry bag.

  • Product: Kitsch 2-in-1 Shampoo Bar and Body Wash
  • Use: Hair and body
  • Format: Solid bar
  • Version: Ultra Sensitive
  • Scent: Scent-free
  • Size: 3.2 oz

Option 2: Kitsch Shampoo and Conditioner Bar Set

Kitsch Shampoo and Conditioner Bar Set

The Kitsch Shampoo and Conditioner Bar Set is another good travel option if you want separate shampoo and conditioner without packing liquid bottles. This does not replace body wash the way the 2-in-1 shampoo and body bar does, but it can be a better fit for travelers who want a more complete solid hair-care setup.

  • Product: Kitsch Rice Bar Shampoo & Conditioner Set
  • Use: Solid shampoo and solid conditioner
  • Format: Bar set
  • Best for: travelers who want separate shampoo and conditioner without packing liquid bottles
  • Includes: shampoo bar and conditioner bar

What are Other’s Saying?   Search this product’s Amazon reviews for “cruise” – may include reviews for other sizes or variations

Which Kitsch Bar Option Should You Pack?

  • Choose the Shampoo and Body Bar if you want one solid bar that can replace both shampoo and body wash.
  • Choose the Shampoo and Conditioner Set if you want separate solid hair-care products and still want to avoid liquid shampoo and liquid conditioner.
  • Pack both if you want solid shampoo, conditioner and body wash coverage without bringing those products in liquid form.

For the lightest setup, the 2-in-1 shampoo and body wash bar is the simplest choice. For a more complete hair-care routine, the shampoo and conditioner set gives you a dedicated conditioner while still keeping liquids out of your bag.

Travel Advantages

  • Solid format: no liquid bottle to squeeze, crack or leak in luggage.
  • Carry-on friendly: since they are solid, Kitsch bars do not take up space in your TSA liquids bag the way liquid shampoo, conditioner and body wash do.
  • 2-in-1 option: the shampoo and body bar works as both shampoo and body wash, helping reduce the number of toiletries you pack.
  • Shampoo + conditioner option: the separate bar set gives you solid shampoo and solid conditioner for a fuller hair-care setup.
  • Less weight: solid bars can weigh less than packing comparable full-size liquid products.
  • Good for cruises: useful in compact cruise ship bathrooms where counter and shower space can be limited.
  • No bottle leak risk: one or two compact bars instead of multiple liquid bottles.

Why Solid Toiletries Are Great for Cruises

Cruise packing is all about saving space and avoiding messes. A shampoo, conditioner or body wash bottle that leaks in a suitcase can create a real problem, especially if it gets on clothes before embarkation day. Solid toiletry bars remove much of that risk.

This can also be useful in a small cruise cabin bathroom. Instead of dealing with multiple bottles in a compact shower, you can pack a solid bar setup that handles shampoo, conditioner and body wash without taking up as much space.

Solid bars are also nice for pre-cruise hotel stays, beach showers, gym bags and overnight trips. Even if you do not use them as your everyday hair-care products at home, they can be a smart travel-specific packing hack.

How to Pack Shampoo, Conditioner and Body Bars

For travel, pair solid bars with a small soap case, draining soap dish or silicone toiletry holder. The key is to let the bars dry between uses. That helps keep them from getting soft and makes them easier to pack on travel days.

  • Let the bar dry before putting it back in your bag.
  • Use a travel soap case or ventilated holder.
  • Keep damp bars separate from paper items or dry clothing.
  • Pack them in your shower caddy for easy access in a cruise cabin bathroom.
  • If packing multiple bars, consider separate holders or a divided case.

Who This Makes Sense For

Kitsch bars are a good fit for travelers who want to cut down on liquids, reduce luggage weight and simplify their toiletry setup. They are especially useful for cruise travelers, carry-on-only packers, weekend trips, hotel stays, gym bags and anyone who wants fewer bottles in their bag.

The shampoo and conditioner bar set may be a better fit if conditioner is an important part of your regular routine. Instead of giving up conditioner to save space, you can move that part of your packing list to a solid format too.

These bars may not replace every toiletry for every traveler, especially if you use a very specific hair-care routine. Even then, they can still be handy backup options for travel, pre-cruise hotel nights, beach showers or short trips.

Final Thoughts

Kitsch bars are a simple way to make your cruise toiletry bag lighter, cleaner and easier to pack. Since they are solid, they are less likely to leak in luggage and they do not take up space in your TSA liquids bag the way liquid toiletries do.

The Kitsch Shampoo and Body Bar is the simplest option if you want one bar that can cover both shampoo and body wash. The Kitsch Shampoo and Conditioner Bar Set is worth considering if you want separate solid hair-care products while still avoiding liquid shampoo and conditioner bottles.

Between the 2-in-1 shampoo and body wash bar and the separate shampoo and conditioner set, you can cover a lot of your shower routine without packing as many liquid bottles.

Kitsch solid shampoo, conditioner and body care bars

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you pack a solid shampoo bar in a carry-on bag?

Yes. Solid shampoo bars are not liquids, gels or aerosols, so they do not take up space in your TSA liquids bag the way liquid shampoo and body wash do.

Do Kitsch bars count toward the TSA liquids limit?

No. Kitsch bars are solid toiletries, so they do not count toward the same TSA liquids limit that applies to liquid shampoo, conditioner, body wash, gels and aerosols.

Why are solid toiletry bars good for cruises?

Solid toiletry bars are compact, easy to pack and much less likely to leak in luggage. They can also help reduce the number of bottles you bring into a small cruise cabin bathroom.

What does the Kitsch Shampoo and Body Bar replace?

The Kitsch 2-in-1 Shampoo Bar and Body Wash can replace separate liquid shampoo and body wash for many travelers.

Should I pack a shampoo and conditioner bar set instead?

A shampoo and conditioner bar set may be a better choice if you want separate solid hair-care products. The 2-in-1 shampoo and body bar is better if you want one bar that can replace both shampoo and body wash.

How should you pack Kitsch bars after using them?

Let the bars dry as much as possible before packing them away. A ventilated soap case, draining soap dish or silicone travel holder can help keep damp bars separate from the rest of your luggage.

Are Kitsch bars only useful for cruises?

No. Kitsch bars can also be useful for carry-on-only trips, pre-cruise hotel stays, beach showers, gym bags, overnight trips and any travel situation where you want fewer liquid bottles.

TP-Link Roam 7 Travel Router: Wi-Fi 7 for Hotels, Cruises & More

The TP-Link Roam 7 Travel Router, model TL-WR3602BE, is a compact dual-band Wi-Fi 7 router designed for hotels, cruise ships, vacation rentals and other places where you may need to connect through public Wi-Fi.

Instead of connecting every phone, tablet, laptop and streaming device separately, the Roam 7 can connect to the available network and create a separate, password-protected Wi-Fi network for your devices. Once your devices are configured to use the router, they can automatically reconnect to that familiar network whenever you travel.

What Does a Travel Router Do?

A travel router creates your own small Wi-Fi network while using another internet connection as its source. That source could be:

  • A hotel or cruise ship Wi-Fi network
  • A wired Ethernet connection
  • A phone connected through USB tethering
  • A compatible USB cellular modem

This can make traveling with multiple devices much easier. Your devices connect to the travel router, while the router handles the connection to the hotel, cruise ship or other available network.

The Roam 7 can also help separate your devices from other users on a public network. Its built-in VPN support provides another option for travelers who already use a compatible VPN service.

TP-Link Roam 7 Features

Model TP-Link TL-WR3602BE
Wireless Standard Dual-band Wi-Fi 7
Rated Wireless Speeds Up to 2,882 Mbps on 5 GHz and 688 Mbps on 2.4 GHz
Connected Devices Supports up to 90 devices
Public Wi-Fi Support Hotspot mode with captive-portal authentication through the TP-Link Tether app
Ethernet Ports One 2.5 Gbps WAN port and one Gigabit LAN port
USB USB 3.0 for compatible cellular devices, phone tethering or file sharing
VPN Support VPN client and server capabilities, including OpenVPN and WireGuard; PPTP and L2TP are also supported
Power USB-C, 5V/3A; no built-in battery
Operating Modes Router, hotspot, USB tethering, USB modem, access point, range extender and client
Approximate Size 4.96 × 3.68 × 1.42 inches

The advertised wireless speeds are theoretical maximums. Actual internet performance will still depend on the hotel, cruise ship, cellular or other connection supplying internet access.

Connecting Through Hotel and Cruise Ship Login Pages

Many hotel and cruise ship Wi-Fi systems use a captive portal. This is the webpage that appears after connecting and asks you to accept terms, enter a room number or sign in to a previously purchased internet package.

The Roam 7 is designed to handle this process through TP-Link’s Tether app. You connect the router to the public network, complete the login process and then connect your devices to the network created by the router.

Our hands-on GL.iNet Beryl AX travel router review shows this general process in action aboard a Royal Caribbean cruise. It includes photos showing how we connected the router to the ship’s Wi-Fi, opened the captive portal and signed in to our purchased internet package.

That review covers the GL.iNet Beryl AX rather than this TP-Link model, but it provides a useful real-world look at what using a travel router on a cruise ship is actually like.

Using the TP-Link Roam 7 on a Cruise

A travel router can be particularly useful in a cruise cabin where several people may have phones, tablets, laptops or other connected devices. Once those devices know the router’s network name and password, you do not have to repeatedly enter a long password on every device.

There are, however, a few important limitations:

  • The router does not provide free internet or replace a cruise line Wi-Fi package.
  • It does not override the cruise line’s terms, device limits or account restrictions.
  • Captive-portal behavior varies between cruise lines, ships and internet providers.
  • The router must remain powered and within range of the ship’s Wi-Fi network.

Cruise line internet systems and policies can change. Check the current rules for your ship and Wi-Fi plan before relying on a travel router.

Flexible USB-C Power

The Roam 7 does not contain a battery. It is powered through USB-C and requires a 5V/3A power source.

That gives travelers several possible power options, including the included adapter, a properly rated USB charger or a compatible power bank. TP-Link recommends using its supplied adapter or a certified adapter that meets the router’s power requirements.

USB-C power also makes it easier to incorporate the router into a compact travel charging setup without packing a proprietary power cable.

VPN Support for Public Wi-Fi

The Roam 7 supports VPN client and server functions, including OpenVPN and WireGuard. Travelers who already subscribe to a compatible VPN service may be able to configure the router so connected devices use the VPN automatically.

A VPN can add privacy when using an unfamiliar network, but basic precautions still matter. Keep devices updated, use strong passwords, enable multifactor authentication where available and do not ignore browser security warnings.

Who Is the TP-Link Roam 7 For?

The Roam 7 makes the most sense for frequent travelers, families carrying several connected devices and remote workers who want a consistent network while away from home.

It may be more equipment than necessary for someone who only travels with a phone and is comfortable connecting directly to hotel or cruise ship Wi-Fi.

For travelers who can benefit from its features, the combination of captive-portal support, USB-C power, VPN compatibility, Ethernet ports and multiple operating modes makes the Roam 7 a versatile option.

Hands on Review: Top Magnets Heavy Duty Magnetic Hooks… These actually hold something!

Magnetic Hooks = Must Have for Cruising

There are a few items that can really help to organize your cabin for a more enjoyable vacation. Since cabin walls are made of generally made of metal. Magnetic hooks will attach to walls and ceilings for organization.

We’ve used a number of magnetic hook designs in our years cruising. These are the ones we’ve been using recently. They’re dandy magnetic hooks. I would venture a guess that they’re very similar to what most people use.

The thing is they leave something to be desired as far as capacity. The stated capacity is 30 lbs which would be fantastic, but… in our experience, it’s no where near realistic. Not sure where manufacturers are getting these ratings… maybe the vacuum of space?? 🙂 but they aren’t realistic in our experience.

I went looking for something more beefy and landed on these. Here’s a hands on look.

Hands on Review Top Magnetics Heavy Duty Magnetic Hooks

In the box. We got the three pack. As of this posting 3, 4 and 6 pack options are available. Compared to the average hook magnets that we’ve seen people use for cruising… these are monsters. They are chunky (but still small and easy to pack) and have a much higher holding capacity.

A look at a single magnet

For size comparison next more of a standard sized magnetic hook – DIYMAG Magnetic Hooks. Of course, the DIYMAG is on the bottom the Top Magnets is on the top.

The two magnets side by side

Here’s the Top Magnets Magnetic hook with our HOXIS Mesh Tote Beach Bag hanging on it. The bag is empty and it’s working great.

Related: Hands on Review: HOXIS Mesh Beach Bag

This is the beach bag holding strong with three cans soup cans in it. Nice!

Close up of the cans. It was chili night.
In comparison this is a DIYMAG Magnetic Hook with a single can in it. One single can made it unstable. This has been our experience with smaller magnetic hooks. They don’t hold much weight. They’re still very helpful, but they just won’t hold anything of substance.

Here’s the Top Magnet Magnetic Hook with the bag + 3 lb weight. I’d say we’re looking at a maximum weight on this surface of 3 1/2 to 4 lbs. In both cases (the smaller DIYMAG Magnetic Hooks and the Top Magnets Hooks) , the capacity of these hooks is overstated. Giving manufacturers the benefit of the doubt, they may do their testing in perfect conditions. The big difference is the Top Magnets Magnetic Hooks can actually hold some weight!

Trial… onboard Celebrity Ascent

Here are some photos and commentary from a cruise we took on the beautiful Celebrity Ascent.

Holding my packable back pack with nearly everything I’ll need for a day at the beach.

Conclusions

In my opinion magnetic hooks are on the must haves list for cabin organization. These heavy duty magnets are a huge upgrade compared to what we’ve been using. And I’m guessing compared to most of the magnetic hooks that are used by cruisers. These are fantastic. Practically speaking we’ll take these and a handful of the smaller ones we already have.

Sand Cloud Turkish Beach Towel: For the Beach, Pool, Plane & More – Limited-Time Coupon

Sand Cloud Large Turkish Beach Towel

Sand Cloud Turkish Beach Towel: For the Beach, Pool, Plane & More

The Sand Cloud XL Turkish Beach Towel combines the coverage of an oversized beach towel with a lighter, more packable Turkish-cotton construction. That makes it useful for beach vacations, pool days, cruises, road trips and plenty of other kinds of travel.

This is not a thick, plush resort-style towel. Its main advantage is the balance between generous coverage and relatively low bulk. Instead of filling a large portion of your suitcase or beach bag, it can fold or roll into a more manageable package while still providing plenty of room to stretch out.

For lots more ideas about what to bring on your next vacation, check out our complete cruise and travel packing list.

Sand Cloud XL Turkish Beach Towel Overview

The Boho Honey XL version is made from 100% Turkish organic cotton and measures approximately 60 by 68 inches. That provides enough space to stretch out on the sand, cover a pool lounger or share during a picnic.

Product highlights include:

  • Lightweight Turkish-cotton construction
  • Approximately 60 by 68 inches for the Boho Honey XL design
  • Sand-resistant woven surface
  • Quick-drying design
  • Twisted tassel fringe
  • Machine washable
  • Multiple patterns and sizes available

The tradeoff for its travel-friendly design is that it will not feel as thick or cushioned as a traditional terrycloth beach towel. Travelers who prioritize packability and faster drying may appreciate that lighter construction, while those who want maximum softness and padding may prefer a heavier towel.

Sizes and specifications can vary among Sand Cloud designs, so check the dimensions of the specific color or pattern you select.

Why It Works for Beach and Pool Days

Sand Cloud describes this towel as sand-resistant rather than completely sand-proof. Its relatively smooth woven surface should make it easier to shake away loose sand than a deep terrycloth pile that tends to trap it.

The lighter construction is also helpful when you are carrying everything from a hotel, parking lot or cruise ship to the beach. A bulky towel can quickly fill a tote, while a Turkish towel leaves more room for sunscreen, water bottles, snacks and a change of clothes.

Quick drying is another practical advantage. Heavy cotton towels can remain damp for hours, especially in humid hotel rooms and cruise cabins. A thinner woven towel should be easier to dry between beach visits and less cumbersome to carry after swimming.

It can be used as:

  • A beach or pool towel
  • A cover for a lounge chair
  • A place to sit on the sand
  • A lightweight beach blanket
  • A wrap or cover-up when leaving the pool

For cruising, it could be especially useful on beach excursions, private-island visits and resort day passes when you want a large towel without filling most of your day bag. Its thinner construction should also make it easier to manage and dry inside a compact cruise cabin.

Travel Uses Beyond the Beach

The Sand Cloud XL Turkish Beach Towel does not have to spend the entire vacation next to the water. Its size and lightweight cotton construction give it several additional travel uses.

Travel blanket: Use it as a lightweight layer on a chilly flight, during a road trip or while relaxing on a hotel balcony.

Picnic blanket: The oversized dimensions provide a convenient surface for picnics, parks, festivals and outdoor events.

Vacation-rental backup: Keep it available when a rental property does not provide enough towels or when you would rather not take the property’s bath towels outside.

Camping and road trips: It can serve as a towel, lightweight blanket, table covering or clean place to sit around a campsite.

Shawl or wrap: Its large size allows it to work as an extra layer during breezy evenings, boat rides and outdoor events.

That versatility can be especially valuable when packing space is limited. Instead of bringing a beach towel, picnic blanket and separate travel throw, one item may be able to cover several jobs.

Important Details

This is a lightweight woven Turkish towel rather than a thick and fluffy terrycloth towel. It should be easier to pack and dry, but it will not provide the same cushioning on a hard pool lounger or rocky surface.

Sand Cloud recommends machine washing the towel in cold water on a delicate cycle and tumble drying it using low heat. Following the care directions should help protect the cotton weave and decorative tassels.

The company also states that it donates 10% of its profits toward marine-conservation efforts.

See the Sand Cloud XL Turkish Beach Towel on Amazon →

Bottom Line

The Sand Cloud XL Turkish Beach Towel offers a useful combination of oversized coverage, packability and versatility. It is large enough for beach and pool use but less cumbersome to carry than many oversized terrycloth towels.

Its broader travel value is the number of jobs it can handle. It can serve as a beach towel during the day, a picnic blanket at the park and a lightweight wrap or travel blanket later in the trip. That makes it an appealing option for beach vacations, cruises, road trips, camping and general travel.

Unidapt European Travel Plug Adapter: Unlock the 220V Outlet on Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises

Royal Caribbean cruise 220v plug adapter

Unidapt European Travel Plug Adapter: Unlock the 220V Outlet on Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises

I’ve been a big proponent of using the 220-volt outlet in cruise cabins. A small European plug adapter is cheap, takes up almost no room and can magically give you access to another outlet that might otherwise go unused.

The Unidapt European travel plug adapter is especially interesting for Royal Caribbean cruisers because it provides one North American-style AC receptacle without adding a cord, USB ports or multiple AC outlets.

Important: This is a plug adapter, not a voltage converter. Only connect devices specifically rated to operate at the voltage supplied by the cruise ship outlet.

Check Current Price & Availability →

In This Post

Why Use the 220V Cruise Cabin Outlet?

Many cruise cabins have a limited number of conveniently placed outlets. Newer ships have generally improved in this area, but older ships and some cabin layouts can still leave several travelers competing for the same plugs.

To accommodate international passengers, many cruise cabins also have a European-style outlet. For North American travelers, that outlet may sit unused for the entire cruise.

A compact Type C adapter can turn it into a usable North American-style receptacle for a compatible charger or electronic device. That does not increase the number of devices one circuit can safely power, but it can make an otherwise unusable outlet available.

Cabin outlet types and voltages can vary by ship and stateroom. Check the outlet and your device before connecting anything.

Royal Caribbean’s Multi-Plug Rule

Royal Caribbean currently prohibits electrical extension cords, power strips and multi-plug outlets. That makes many popular cruise power adapters problematic, including compact adapters that combine several AC outlets with USB charging ports.

The Unidapt adapter has a much simpler design:

  • One European Type C plug
  • One North American-style AC receptacle
  • No extension cord
  • No additional AC outlets
  • No built-in USB ports

Because it provides only a single AC receptacle, it does not appear to be a multi-plug outlet. That makes it a much better match for Royal Caribbean’s current wording than adapters that split one outlet into several AC receptacles.

However, no third-party product can be guaranteed admission onboard. Royal Caribbean states that questionable items remain subject to inspection and that ship security has the final say.

Review the cruise line’s current rules before packing: Royal Caribbean Prohibited Items Policy

Also see our complete writeup: Royal Caribbean Bans Multi-Plug Adapters and Extension Cords

What About Celebrity Cruises?

Celebrity Cruises’ published prohibited-items information specifically lists electrical extension cords. It does not currently provide the same detailed multi-plug language found in Royal Caribbean’s policy.

The Unidapt adapter remains a simple option for Celebrity cabins equipped with a compatible European-style outlet. It has no cord and does not split the outlet into multiple receptacles.

Policies and their onboard interpretation can change, so check Celebrity’s current prohibited-items information before sailing.

Adapter vs. Voltage Converter

This distinction is extremely important: The Unidapt does not convert 220 or 230 volts into 120 volts. It only changes the physical plug configuration.

Many phone, tablet, camera and laptop chargers are designed for worldwide use. Look for wording similar to this on the charger:

Input: 100–240V, 50/60Hz

A charger with that input range is generally designed to accept both North American and European voltages. Do not assume that every electronic device is dual voltage.

Be especially careful with hair dryers, curling tools and other high-wattage appliances. A device marked only for 110 or 120 volts should not be connected directly to a 220 or 230-volt outlet through this adapter.

Check the label, product specifications or manufacturer documentation for every device you plan to connect.

Why This Unidapt Adapter Makes Sense

The Unidapt package currently includes four individual adapters. That gives you extras for other luggage, international travel or future cruises without requiring much packing space.

According to the manufacturer, these adapters:

  • Use the common European Type C plug configuration
  • Provide one North American-style receptacle
  • Are also compatible with many Type E and Type F outlets
  • Work only as plug adapters and do not convert voltage
  • Should be used only with devices rated for the available voltage

The lack of extra features is the main attraction here. On another cruise line, a multi-outlet adapter with USB ports may be more convenient. For Royal Caribbean, the Unidapt’s basic one-plug-to-one-outlet design may be exactly what makes it useful.

It is also handy for regular international travel. Just remember that Type C is not the outlet used everywhere. For example, the United Kingdom and Ireland generally use Type G outlets.

Another Option: A USB-Only Charger

A lot of the electronics we bring on cruises charge through USB. Royal Caribbean’s current rules make an exception for qualifying device and USB chargers carrying recognized U.S. or European conformity markings.

A European USB charging block can therefore be another useful way to take advantage of the cabin’s Type C outlet. Because it has USB outputs but no AC receptacle, it avoids the multi-plug AC outlet issue.

Gonex Compression Packing Cubes: Easier, More Organized Travel Packing, 4-Pack – on sale for $16.24, Best Price

Gonex Compression Packing Cubes, 4pcs Expandable Storage Travel Luggage Bags Organizers(Black)

Gonex Compression Packing Cubes: Easier, More Organized Travel Packing

Gonex Compression Packing Cubes help separate clothing while also squeezing down soft items to make better use of the space inside your suitcase.

They are useful for all kinds of travel, including flights, road trips, hotel stays, weekend getaways and cruise vacations. With four different cube sizes, the set makes it easier to organize clothing by type, traveler or outfit instead of letting everything become one large pile.

How the Compression Design Works

Each cube has a main zipper that closes the storage compartment and a second zipper around the outside. Once the cube is packed, closing the outer zipper pulls the sides closer together and reduces its overall depth.

This is different from a vacuum storage bag. The cubes do not remove all the air from your clothing, but they can compress soft items and create a more compact, structured bundle.

They work especially well for items such as:

  • T-shirts and casual shirts
  • Shorts and lightweight pants
  • Underwear and socks
  • Sleepwear
  • Swimwear
  • Light sweaters and jackets

You can also leave the outer zipper open and use them like standard packing cubes when organization is more important than compression.

Four Sizes for Different Types of Clothing

The set includes four progressively sized packing cubes. This gives you more flexibility than trying to fit every item into cubes of the same size.

The larger cubes can be used for pants, shirts, sweaters and other bulky clothing. Medium and smaller cubes are useful for underwear, socks, swimwear, accessories or a complete change of clothes.

The different sizes can also help when two people share a suitcase. Each traveler can have designated cubes, or the set can be divided by clothing category.

Check Current Price & Availability →

Compression Cubes vs. Regular Packing Cubes

Regular packing cubes are primarily designed to organize a suitcase. Compression packing cubes add the option of pulling the packed clothing into a thinner bundle.

That additional compression can be helpful when packing a carry-on or trying to fit bulky clothing into a limited amount of space. The tradeoff is that an overfilled compression cube can be harder to close than a standard cube.

Compression also does not make your luggage lighter. It may create room for additional items, but airline baggage weight limits still apply.

Useful for Flights, Hotels, Road Trips and Cruises

Packing cubes are useful in both carry-on and checked luggage. In a carry-on, they help keep small items contained and make it easier to find clothing without digging through the entire bag.

For road trips or vacations with several hotel stops, you can remove only the cube you need instead of completely unpacking at every destination. A smaller cube can also be packed with one complete outfit for an overnight stop.

They can be particularly convenient on cruise vacations, where travelers often pack casual clothes, swimwear, dinner outfits and sleepwear for the same trip. Once you reach your cabin, the cubes can be moved directly into drawers or placed on closet shelves for quicker unpacking.

The cruise application is useful, but these are versatile travel organizers rather than a cruise-specific product.

Lightweight and Easy to Handle

The cubes are made from lightweight fabric so they add relatively little weight to your luggage. Each cube also includes a carrying handle, making it easier to lift a tightly packed cube out of a suitcase, backpack or hotel drawer.

The structured shape can also help keep clothing contained if a suitcase is opened during travel or inspected at the airport.

Things to Keep in Mind

Compression works best when clothing is distributed evenly throughout the cube. A large lump on one side can make the outer zipper difficult to close and place unnecessary strain on the fabric.

Pressing down gently while working the compression zipper around the cube is generally better than pulling forcefully. Rigid items and very bulky clothing may not compress much and are often better packed separately.

Compression can also wrinkle some clothing more than loose packing. Items that need to remain crisp may be better placed in a regular packing cube, garment folder or separate section of the suitcase.

Bottom Line

Gonex Compression Packing Cubes combine the organization of traditional packing cubes with the option to reduce the space taken up by softer clothing.

The four sizes make the set adaptable to carry-ons, checked luggage, backpacks and shared suitcases. They are a practical option for flights, hotel stays, road trips, cruises and other vacations where organized packing can make the entire trip easier.

NTONPOWER i-Donut Travel Power Strip: Easy Charging for Hotels, Travel and Cruising – On Sale for $13.97, Save 30%!

NTONPOWER Travel Power Strip

NTONPOWER Travel Power Strip: Easy Charging for Hotels, Travel and Cruising

The NTONPOWER Travel Power Strip is a compact charging hub designed for travelers who need to turn one outlet into a more useful setup. That can be helpful in hotel rooms, airports, dorm rooms, guest rooms and other travel situations where outlets are limited, awkwardly placed or already being used.

This small round power strip includes 3 AC outlets and 3 USB ports, including 1 USB-C port. The built-in short extension cord wraps around the unit for packing, making it a practical option for general travel.

Check Current Price & Availability →

Why This Makes Sense for General Travel

When you travel, the outlet situation is rarely ideal. One outlet may be behind a nightstand. Another may be across the room. In a hotel room, you may have multiple devices to charge but only a small number of convenient places to plug them in.

This NTONPOWER unit helps by giving you one compact charging spot for common travel electronics like:

  • Phones
  • Smart watches
  • Tablets
  • Bluetooth headphones
  • Camera batteries
  • E-readers
  • Small USB-powered accessories

The round shape also works well on a desk or nightstand. Instead of having chargers spread across the room, you can keep your daily devices in one place.

Compact Cord Wrap Design

The built-in 3-foot cord wraps around the power strip, which helps keep things tidy in your bag. That is a big advantage over a standard household power strip with a long dangling cord.

The short cord also gives you a little flexibility when the outlet is tucked behind furniture or located in an awkward spot. It is not a long extension cord, but it is enough to move the charging hub to a more useful position on a nightstand, desk or counter.

Again, that cord is also part of the reason I would be careful about packing this for a cruise.

What to Know Before Buying

This is a compact travel power strip, not a heavy-duty appliance strip. The listing specifically warns not to use it with high-power items like hair dryers or steam irons. That makes sense. This is best for small electronics and chargers, not heat-producing appliances.

Also, while the USB-C port is a nice addition, this is not the same thing as a high-watt USB-C laptop charger. I would think of the built-in USB ports as convenient charging ports for smaller travel devices.

If you are purchasing this for an upcoming cruise, double check with your cruise line’s prohibited items policy to make sure it’s allowed. It is surge protector free, which should make it compliant for most cruise lines. Two standouts are Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises. See below for more on that.

Bottom Line

The NTONPOWER Travel Power Strip is a useful travel accessory for hotels, guest rooms, dorms and general travel situations where you need a more convenient charging spot. The compact round design, 3 AC outlets, 3 USB ports and wraparound cord make it easy to pack and easy to use.

For cruises, though, I would be careful. Because this has multiple AC outlets and a cord, it may not be allowed on Royal Caribbean, Celebrity and possibly other cruise lines.

What Are Others Saying? Search this product’s Amazon reviews for “cruise” – may include reviews for other sizes or variations.

Important Cruise Warning: This May Not Be Allowed (Royal and Celebrity Cruisers)

For cruises, this is where things get more complicated. Even though this NTONPOWER model is listed as a non-surge protector travel power strip, it still has multiple AC outlets and an extension-style cord. That combination may be a problem on some cruise lines.

Royal Caribbean has specifically added multi-plug adapters, multi-plug outlets, power strips and extension cords to its prohibited items language. Based on that policy, I would not pack this for a Royal Caribbean cruise. For more details, see our writeup: Royal Caribbean Bans Multi-Plug Adapters and Extension Cords.

Celebrity Cruises is also a concern. Celebrity’s packing guidance recommends bringing a lightweight multi-USB charger and says not to bring a regular power strip. Since this NTONPOWER unit has multiple AC outlets and a cord, I would also consider it a risky choice for Celebrity.

Bottom line: this may be useful for hotels and general travel, but I would be cautious about packing it for a cruise. Always check your cruise line’s current prohibited items list before bringing any power strip, extension cord or multi-plug adapter.

Alternative for Royal and Celebrity Cruisers: Anker Zolo USB-C Charger Block – a multi-port USB charger.

Twelve South AirFly Pro: The Easy, Reliable Way to Use Wireless Headphones In Flight – On Sale for $39.99, Save 27%

Twelve South AirFly

Twelve South AirFly Pro: The Easy, Reliable Way to Use Wireless Headphones In Flight

The Twelve South AirFly Pro is a compact Bluetooth adapter that solves a very specific air travel problem: using your favorite wireless headphones with airplane seatback entertainment systems that still have a standard 3.5mm headphone jack.

Instead of using wired airline earbuds or whatever headphones are handed out on the plane, you can plug in the AirFly Pro, pair your AirPods, Bose, Sony, Beats or other Bluetooth headphones, and listen wirelessly.

Check Current Price & Availability →

What Is the Twelve South AirFly Pro?

The Twelve South AirFly Pro is a small Bluetooth audio adapter for airplane headphone jacks. In plain English, it lets you plug into the plane’s entertainment system and listen through wireless earbuds or headphones.

Many in-flight entertainment systems still use a regular headphone jack. The AirFly Pro gives you a simple way to use your own wireless headphones instead of packing a wired pair just for the flight.

Some in-flight entertainment systems do allow you to pair Bluetooth headphones directly, but that process can be complicated and from my personal experience it does not always work. After the initial pairing, connecting the Twelve South AirFly Pro is about as simple as plugging the unit into the headphone jack and turning it on.

Best Use: Air Travel

The strongest use case for the Twelve South AirFly Pro is air travel. Flying is more comfortable and enjoyable when you can use the wireless headphones you already like, especially if they have noise cancellation.

This is especially useful for long flights, overnight flights, international flights, and any flight where you plan to watch movies or shows through the seatback entertainment system.

The main benefit is simple: better headphones, fewer wires, and a more comfortable flight.

Two People Can Listen at Once

One of the best reasons to consider the AirFly Pro over the simpler AirFly models is that it can connect two pairs of headphones. That can be a big deal for couples or families traveling together.

Instead of sharing one pair of earbuds or dealing with a wired splitter, two people can listen to the same airplane movie with their own Bluetooth headphones.

Twelve South AirFly Models Compared

There are several Twelve South AirFly models, and the right one depends on how you plan to use it on flights. The basic idea is the same across the lineup: plug AirFly into an airplane headphone jack and listen with Bluetooth headphones or earbuds. The differences come down to battery life, whether one or two people can listen, and whether you want the newer Pro 2 controls and audio features.

Model Best For Battery Life Air Travel Notes
AirFly SE Simple, lower-cost airplane use 20+ hours The basic model. Great if you just want to use one pair of wireless headphones with an airplane entertainment screen.
AirFly Duo Two-person listening 20+ hours A nice middle option if you want two people to listen to the same airplane movie at the same time. Availability can vary.
AirFly Pro Two-person listening with longer battery life 25+ hours This is the model featured here. It is a strong pick for frequent flyers who want two-headphone support and longer battery life.
AirFly Pro 2 Best overall option if pricing is close 25+ hours The newer premium model with easier controls, Bluetooth 5.3, improved codec support, volume controls, mute and a battery indicator.
AirFly Pro 2 Deluxe Frequent flyers who want the extras 25+ hours Same core device as AirFly Pro 2, but bundled with the international airline adapter and a premium travel bag.

Which AirFly Should You Buy?

For most flyers, the decision is pretty simple, but availability and pricing can make a difference. If you only need one pair of headphones, the AirFly SE is the budget pick. If you want two people to listen together, step up to the AirFly Pro or AirFly Pro 2. Of course, cost matters, so if prices are close, the AirFly Pro 2 is the better long-term buy because of the newer controls, improved audio support and updated Bluetooth hardware.

The AirFly Pro still makes a lot of sense if you find it at a good price. It already has the main airplane-friendly features most people want: support for two pairs of headphones and long battery life.

Model names, availability and pricing can change quickly, so compare current listings before buying.

Battery Life and Charging

The AirFly Pro is rated for 25+ hours of battery life, which should be enough for most long travel days. It charges by USB-C, and it can also be used while charging.

That matters because flights, layovers, delays and overnight travel can stretch out a travel day quickly. Having a small adapter with strong battery life is a real advantage.

Things to Know Before Buying

  • It is for audio output, not phone calls: This is mainly for listening. Do not buy it expecting full headset microphone support for calls or chat.
  • You need a headphone jack: The airplane entertainment system needs a compatible 3.5mm audio jack. As of this posting, many in-flight entertainment systems still include a headphone jack.
  • Pairing takes a minute: Like most Bluetooth accessories, the first pairing may take a little patience. Pairing only needs to happen one time.
  • Charge it before travel: Battery life is good, but it is still another device to keep charged.

My Experience

I have the similar Twelve South AirFly SE to use with my AirPods Pro and love it. I initially picked it up for a trip to Europe, but now keep it in my travel backpack and use it on any flight that has in-flight entertainment. This makes connecting super easy and reliable.

Bottom Line

The Twelve South AirFly Pro is a small, practical air travel accessory for anyone who prefers using wireless headphones on airplanes. It is especially useful for flights with seatback entertainment systems that still rely on a standard headphone jack.

If you already travel with Bluetooth earbuds or noise-canceling headphones, the AirFly Pro is worth a look for your flight bag or tech pouch.

Can’t Afford Matador? PACKISM Travel Pouches: A Cheaper Matador Alternative for Travel Toiletries

Matador Toiletry Bottles 3 Pack - 3 OZ Travel Bottles for Toiletries, TSA Approved Toiletry Bottles with Labels, Refillable Travel Pouch, Travel Containers for Creams, Gels, Pastes, and Liquids Pictured: Matador FlatPak Toiletry Bottle

PACKISM Travel Pouches: A Cheaper Matador Alternative for Travel Toiletries

PACKISM Travel Pouches are a cheaper Matador alternative for travelers who like the idea of soft-sided refillable toiletry containers, but do not necessarily want to pay premium travel gear prices.

The Matador FlatPak Toiletry Bottles are clever. They are refillable, soft-sided, travel-sized, and designed to take up less room as you use the contents. For carry-on travel, cruising, hotel stays, and weekend trips, that is a great concept.

The downside? Matador bottles can be pricey. If you are looking for a much cheaper way to try a similar flat travel pouch idea, PACKISM Travel Pouches are worth a look.

These are 3 oz / 90 mL refillable toiletry pouches, which puts them under the usual TSA 3.4 oz / 100 mL carry-on liquid container limit. They are designed for things like shampoo, conditioner, lotion, body wash, face wash, hand soap, and other travel toiletries.

Why Look for a Matador Alternative?

Matador FlatPak toiletry bottles are a premium travel item. They are designed for minimalist packing, ultralight travel, and saving space in your toiletry bag. I like the concept a lot. Instead of carrying rigid bottles that stay the same size whether they are full or nearly empty, soft-sided pouches can flatten down as you use the contents.

That makes a lot of sense for carry-on travel. It also makes sense for cruises, especially if you are flying to port and trying to keep your liquids bag under control.

But not everyone needs the premium version. If you want to pack shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion, hand soap, face wash, or other travel toiletries, a cheaper pouch-style option may be enough.

PACKISM Travel Pouches: The Cheaper Option

PACKISM travel pouches

PACKISM Travel Pouches follow a similar packing idea: refillable, soft-sided travel pouches for toiletries. They are not the same as Matador FlatPak bottles, but they are a much more budget-friendly way to get into the flat pouch style.

One big advantage is quantity. Instead of getting just a few premium bottles, this PACKISM option gives you a larger set of pouches. That can be especially useful if you are packing for a family, splitting toiletries between bags, or bringing several different products in smaller amounts.

These are the kinds of uses that make sense:

  • Shampoo
  • Conditioner
  • Body wash
  • Lotion
  • Face wash
  • Hand soap
  • Hair gel or cream
  • Other travel-size toiletries

They can also be handy when you want to bring just a few days’ worth of something instead of packing a full bottle.

PACKISM vs Matador FlatPak Toiletry Bottles

I would not call PACKISM pouches a direct replacement for Matador FlatPak bottles. Matador is the premium version. PACKISM is the cheaper alternative. That distinction matters.

Feature Matador FlatPak PACKISM Travel Pouches
General style Premium soft-sided travel bottle Budget-friendly refillable pouch
Capacity 3 oz 3 oz / 90 mL
Carry-on use Travel-size for TSA liquids bag packing Under the 3.4 oz / 100 mL TSA liquid container limit
Best for Minimalist travel, ultralight packing, premium gear setups Cheaper toiletry packing, family travel, extra containers
Packability Designed to shrink as contents are used Soft pouch style packs flatter than many rigid bottles
Price point Premium Usually much cheaper
Quantity Typically sold in smaller sets Often sold in larger multi-packs
My take Best if you want the nicer travel gear version Best if you want a cheaper way to try the concept

If you travel frequently and want the nicest version of this idea, Matador still makes sense. If you are more interested in saving money, packing several toiletries, or outfitting the whole family, PACKISM may be the better value.

Why These Make Sense for Travel and Cruises

For travel in general, refillable toiletry pouches are useful because they let you bring the products you already use at home. That can save money compared to buying travel-size toiletries over and over again.

For cruises, they can be especially handy if you are flying to the cruise port. You can fill a pouch with enough shampoo, conditioner, lotion, or body wash for the trip without packing a bulky full-size bottle.

They also work well for pre-cruise hotel stays. Instead of digging through larger bottles or opening full-size products before you even board the ship, you can pack a small amount for the hotel and keep the rest of your toiletries organized for the cruise itself.

For carry-on travel, these are sized to work with the TSA 3-1-1 liquids rule: containers must be 3.4 oz / 100 mL or smaller and fit in your quart-size liquids bag. Always check current TSA rules and your airline’s requirements before you pack.

Things to Watch For

With any refillable travel bottle or pouch, I would test it before packing it for a real trip. Fill it, close it, wipe it down, and let it sit upside down or on its side for a while. That is especially important with shampoo, conditioner, lotion, or anything you would not want leaking in your luggage.

I would also avoid overfilling these. Leave a little room at the top so the pouch can flex. That is good advice for travel bottles in general, especially when flying.

A few more practical tips:

  • Label each pouch clearly.
  • Test with water first if you are unsure about leaks.
  • Pack filled pouches inside your liquids bag for flights.
  • Use a backup zip bag for extra leak protection.
  • Do not pack anything irreplaceable or expensive without testing first.

Budget alternatives are great, but they are still budget alternatives. The value is the price and quantity. The tradeoff may be that they do not feel as premium as Matador.

Bottom Line

If you want the premium version, Matador FlatPak Toiletry Bottles are still the benchmark. They are compact, clever, and designed specifically for minimalist travel.

If you want a much cheaper Matador alternative, PACKISM Travel Pouches are the option I would look at. They give you a similar refillable pouch concept at a lower price, and the larger pack size makes them practical for travel, cruises, families, and anyone who wants to organize several toiletries without spending a lot.

For me, this comes down to price versus premium feel. Matador is the nicer travel gear option. PACKISM is the cheaper practical option.

Hiearcool Waterproof Phone Pouch: Simple Protection for Beach, Pool and Cruise Days, 2-Pack – On Sale for $7.99… $4 Each

Hiearcool Waterproof Phone Pouch, Waterproof Phone Case for iPhone 16 15 14 13 Pro Max, IPX8 Cellphone Dry Bag Beach Cruise Ship Essentials 2Pack-8.3"

Hiearcool Waterproof Phone Pouch: Simple Protection for Beach, Pool and Cruise Days

The Hiearcool Waterproof Phone Pouch is a simple travel accessory that makes a lot of sense if your trip involves water. Beach bags get wet. Pool chairs get splashed. Cruise excursions can involve boats, rain, waterfalls, snorkeling stops and wet towels. A waterproof phone pouch gives your phone an extra layer of protection while keeping it close.

This is a 2-pack of waterproof phone pouches with lanyards included. The Amazon listing describes these as IPX8 waterproof pouches with a touch-friendly clear window, double-lock seal and room for most phones up to 8.9 inches, even with many protective cases installed.

Check Current Price & Availability →

Why Pack a Waterproof Phone Pouch?

Phones go everywhere now, including places where water, sand and splashes are hard to avoid. A waterproof phone pouch lets you keep your phone with you instead of leaving it unattended on a beach chair or buried in a wet bag.

It can also hold a few small essentials like a cruise card, hotel key, cash or credit card. For beach days and excursions, that can be a lot more convenient than carrying a larger bag everywhere.

Key Features

  • 2-pack: Useful for couples, families or keeping one as a backup.
  • IPX8 waterproof rating: Designed to help protect against water exposure when properly sealed.
  • Universal fit: Listed as fitting most phones up to 8.9 inches.
  • Touch-friendly window: Allows basic phone use without removing the phone.
  • Clear front and back: Useful for photos and videos through the pouch.
  • Double-lock seal: Helps keep out water, sand, dust and dirt.
  • Lanyard included: Makes it easier to keep your phone with you.

Great for Cruises and Beach Trips

For cruising, this is especially useful on beach excursions, pool deck days, boat tours, resort day passes, private island stops and water-heavy port days. You can keep your phone, cruise card and a little cash close without constantly worrying about splashes or wet towels.

It is also useful beyond cruises: beach vacations, water parks, camping, hiking, boating, fishing, lake trips and rainy travel days are all good fits.

Photo and Touchscreen Notes

The pouch is designed so you can use your phone through the clear window, but there are some real-world limits. Fingerprint unlock may not work through the pouch, and touchscreens can be harder to use underwater or when the pouch is wet.

For photos around water, using your phone’s side buttons may be easier than relying on the touchscreen. It is also smart to set up your camera or unlock method before your hands are wet.

Test It Before You Trust It

Before putting your phone inside any waterproof pouch, test it first. Put a dry paper towel or tissue inside, seal the pouch and submerge it in water. If the paper stays dry, you have more confidence before using it with your phone.

  • Check the seal before each use.
  • Keep sand, sunscreen, hair and debris away from the sealing area.
  • Do not use it with sharp objects that could puncture the pouch.
  • Treat it as added protection, not permission to be careless with your phone.

Final Thoughts

The Hiearcool Waterproof Phone Pouch is an easy packing-list addition for cruises, beach vacations, pool days and water excursions. It is small, inexpensive, easy to pack and useful in situations where your phone is more exposed than usual.

Bottom line: if your trip includes beaches, pools, boats, water parks or cruise excursions, a waterproof phone pouch is a smart item to pack.

tomtoc Explorer Sling Bag: A Compact Crossbody Bag for Everyday Carry and Travel – On Sale for $40.72, Prime Exclusive

omtoc Compact EDC Sling Bag

tomtoc Explorer Sling Bag: A Compact Crossbody Bag for Everyday Carry and Travel

The tomtoc Explorer Sling Bag is a compact crossbody sling bag designed for everyday carry, travel days, sightseeing, work, commuting and light adventure. It is not a huge backpack replacement, but that is really the point. This is the sort of bag that gives you a practical place for your phone, wallet, passport, sunglasses, earbuds, battery bank, small tablet, Kindle or other daily essentials without carrying more bag than you need.

For travel, I especially like the sling bag format. A sling can be worn across your chest, pulled around quickly when you need access and kept closer to your body in crowded areas. That makes it a good option for airports, theme parks, city exploring, cruise ports, excursions and everyday errands.

In This Post

tomtoc Explorer Sling Bag Overview

The tomtoc Explorer Sling Bag is a compact 3L sling bag with a minimalist crossbody design. According to the current product listing, it measures about 12.20″ x 5.90″ x 2.95″, making it small enough to stay out of the way but large enough for a useful everyday carry setup.

The bag is made with 840D recycled polyester and has water-resistant construction, YKK waterproof zippers and Duraflex buckles. It is designed to be worn as a chest bag or shoulder sling, with a wide seatbelt-style strap to help distribute weight more comfortably.

This is the type of bag that fits between a pocket dump and a full daypack. If you do not want to load your pants pockets with a phone, wallet, keys, passport, sunglasses and battery bank, a small sling can make a lot of sense.

Check Current Price & Availability →

Key Features

  • Compact 3L size: Small enough for everyday carry, sightseeing and travel days.
  • Three-compartment layout: Helps keep small items organized instead of ending up in one bottom-of-the-bag pile.
  • Hidden back pocket: Useful for a passport, cash, card case or other valuables you want closer to your body.
  • Front quick-access pocket: Handy for earbuds, keys, transit cards and other small essentials.
  • Main compartment: Sized for items like a Kindle, Nintendo Switch/Switch OLED, power bank, phone, wallet or slim small tablet.
  • Water-resistant materials: Helpful for light rain, splashes and everyday travel use.
  • YKK waterproof zippers: A nice durability and usability detail.
  • Duraflex buckles: Designed for quick on/off use.
  • Wide strap: Helps spread the weight across your shoulder or chest.

This is not a giant gear hauler. It is better thought of as a compact personal item organizer for the stuff you want close, accessible and better protected than it would be loose in your pockets.

Security Advantages of a Sling Bag

tomtoc explorer sling bag

One of the biggest reasons to consider a sling bag for travel is security. No bag is theft-proof, and a sling bag is not a substitute for paying attention to your surroundings, but the design does have some practical advantages.

It Can Be Worn in Front

A traditional backpack usually sits behind you, where zippers and pockets are harder to see. A sling bag can be rotated to the front of your body in crowded areas like airports, markets, train stations, elevators, theme parks or cruise port shopping areas.

Valuables Stay Closer to Your Body

The tomtoc Explorer Sling Bag includes a hidden back pocket that sits against your body when worn. That can be a better spot for a passport, cash, card holder or other important items than an exterior backpack pocket.

Quick Access Without Setting the Bag Down

With a sling, you can pull the bag around to your chest and access what you need without taking it off and setting it on the ground. That is useful at airport security, ticket counters, coffee shops, ride lines and excursion meet-up points.

Less Pocket Clutter

Travelers often carry more than usual: passports, boarding passes, cruise cards, hotel keys, sunglasses, earbuds, medication, hand sanitizer, power banks and snacks. Keeping those items in a sling bag can reduce the chance of something slipping out of a pants pocket or being left behind.

Again, this is not a lockbox. But worn correctly, a sling bag can be a more controlled and visible way to carry small valuables compared to a backpack or overloaded pockets.

Why It Works Well for Travel

The tomtoc Explorer Sling Bag is a good fit for travel because it is small, organized and easy to keep with you. It can work as your airport essentials bag, your sightseeing bag or your quick-grab personal item inside a larger carry-on.

For flying, a small sling can hold the items you want at your seat without digging through a backpack or roller bag. Think phone, charger, earbuds, wallet, passport, glasses, snacks and a small device. Once you board, you can keep the sling with you while your larger bag goes under the seat or in the overhead bin.

For city travel, the crossbody design is practical. You can wear it on your back while walking, then rotate it to the front when you are in a tighter or busier space. It also looks more streamlined than a full backpack, which can be nice when you are going from airport to hotel to dinner to sightseeing.

It also has a useful “just enough” capacity. A larger backpack can tempt you to overpack. A compact sling encourages you to bring the essentials and leave the extra weight behind.

Cruise and Shore Excursion Uses

Although this is not only a cruise bag, the sling format can work really well on a cruise vacation. Around the ship, it gives you a place for your phone, cruise card, sunglasses, lip balm, reading glasses, small sunscreen, hand sanitizer and other small items you do not want to carry in your pockets.

For port days and shore excursions, a compact sling can be even more useful. You can keep your passport or ID, cash, cards, phone, excursion tickets and a small battery bank close to your body. In crowded port areas or busy tourist spots, being able to rotate the bag to the front is a real advantage.

This is not the bag I would choose if you need beach towels, big water bottles, multiple jackets or a full family’s worth of gear. But for one person’s essentials, it is a nice size.

For more cruise packing ideas, see our complete cruise packing list.

What Can Fit Inside?

Based on the product listing and the bag’s compact 3L layout, this is best for smaller everyday and travel essentials. Good candidates include your phone, wallet or card holder, passport, cash, keys, earbuds, power bank, charging cable, sunglasses, hand sanitizer and other small items you want close at hand.

The main compartment can also work for slightly larger compact items like a Kindle, Nintendo Switch/Switch OLED, small e-reader or slim small tablet. The front pocket is useful for quick-access items, while the hidden back pocket is a better spot for things you want closer to your body.

The three-compartment design is a big part of the appeal. Small travel bags can become frustrating when everything falls into one loose compartment. Having a front pocket, main compartment and hidden back pocket makes it easier to separate quick-access items from more important items.

Things to Consider

The main thing to know is that the tomtoc Explorer Sling Bag is compact. That is a feature, but it also means it is not the right choice for every situation. If you need to carry a large water bottle, rain jacket, full-size tablet, camera gear, snacks for multiple people or bulky travel items, a daypack may be a better fit.

It is also water-resistant, not a dry bag. That is useful for light rain and everyday splashes, but I would not treat it as waterproof protection for electronics in heavy rain or around pools and beaches.

Finally, sling bags are personal. Some people love wearing a bag crossbody, while others prefer a backpack or belt bag. If you like the idea of having your essentials close and easy to swing around to the front, this style makes a lot of sense.

Bottom Line

The tomtoc Explorer Sling Bag looks like a strong option for everyday carry, travel, sightseeing, airport days, cruises and shore excursions. It is compact, organized and easier to keep close than a traditional backpack.

This is the kind of bag that makes the most sense when you want your important stuff close, organized and easy to reach without carrying a full backpack. I like the sling format for travel because it gives you quick access when you need it, but it can also be pulled tight and kept in front of you when you are in a crowded area.

The biggest advantages are the sling-style access, three-compartment organization and hidden back pocket for valuables. For travelers who want a smaller bag for phone, wallet, passport, power bank, earbuds and other essentials, this is a practical option to consider.

Cruise On Towel Bands: A Simple Way to Keep Towels in Place, 4-Pack – $11.99, $3 Each

cruise on towel bands

Cruise On Towel Bands: A Simple Way to Keep Towels in Place

Cruise On Towel Bands are one of those small cruise packing items that can make a surprisingly big difference once you are actually on the ship, by the pool or at the beach. We use these exact towel bands and they work great. They help keep your beach towel in place on a lounge chair instead of sliding down, bunching up or blowing around in the wind.

In my opinion, these or beach towel clips are a must-have for any cruise or beach location. They do not take up much room in your bag, but they can save a lot of frustration when you are trying to relax and your towel will not stay put.

Check Current Price & Availability on Amazon →

For lots more about what you should pack for your next cruise check out our complete packing list.

Why Towel Bands Are Great for Cruises

Pool decks and beach days are a big part of many cruise vacations, but lounge chair towels can be annoying. They slide down when you sit up. They blow around when it is breezy. They can also make it harder to spot your chair if everything around you looks the same.

Cruise On Towel Bands solve that problem in a very simple way. Stretch the band around the top of the chair and towel, and it helps hold the towel in place. That is it. There is no complicated setup, no batteries, no moving parts and no bulky item to pack.

Our Personal Take

We use these exact towel bands, and they have earned a place in our cruise gear. They are small enough to toss into a beach bag, cruise tote or suitcase pocket, and they are easy to use once you get to the pool deck or beach.

The big win is convenience. You are not constantly readjusting your towel or trying to tuck it into the chair. Once the towel band is on, the towel tends to stay where you want it. That makes lounging, reading, napping or watching the ocean a lot more relaxing.

Cruise On Towel Bands vs Beach Towel Clips

We have used both towel bands and beach towel clips extensively on cruises and beach vacations. In my opinion, having one or the other is a must-have. Either option can help keep your towel in place on a lounge chair, which saves a lot of frustration by the pool, on the beach or on a windy cruise ship deck.

As to the question of which works better, we have landed on towel bands. They take up less room, are easier to pack and seem to be more secure once installed. Towel clips still work, but for us, bands have become the easier and more packable option.

  • Towel bands wrap around the chair and towel to help hold the towel in place.
  • Towel clips clip the towel to the chair, usually near the top corners.
  • Towel bands are compact, simple and easy to pack.
  • Towel clips can still be a good option, especially for certain chair styles.

Good Uses for Cruise On Towel Bands

  • Holding a towel on a cruise ship lounge chair
  • Keeping a beach towel in place at a resort
  • Using at the pool on sea days
  • Helping identify your chair among rows of similar loungers
  • Packing in a beach bag, cruise tote or shore excursion bag

Why This Is an Easy Cruise Packing Win

Some cruise accessories are useful but bulky. Others sound clever but never actually get used. Cruise On Towel Bands fall into the sweet spot: small, inexpensive, easy to pack and genuinely useful.

They are the kind of item you may not think about until you are on a windy pool deck trying to keep your towel from sliding down your chair. Once you have them, they are easy to keep packed with your other cruise and beach gear.

Bottom Line

Cruise On Towel Bands are a small cruise accessory that can make pool and beach days easier. We use these exact towel bands, they work great for us, and I think towel bands or beach towel clips belong on just about every cruise packing list.

Antler Soft Stripe Large Luggage: Big Checked Bag Capacity Without Big Checked Bag Weight – On Sale for $188, Save 47%!

ANTLER - Soft Stripe Large Luggage - 31" Softside Suitcase, Durable, Lightweight & Expandable, 4 Spinner Wheels - Adjustable Handle, TSA Lock, Black

Antler Soft Stripe Large Luggage: Big Checked Bag Capacity Without Big Checked Bag Weight

Antler Soft Stripe Large Luggage is the larger checked-bag version of the Soft Stripe suitcase line. I have the medium version and love that bag. This large version has a lot of the same features, but with more packing capacity for longer trips, family travel, extended cruises or anyone who wants one larger checked suitcase.

Related: Antler Soft Stripe Review!

The big thing that stands out here is the weight. Large checked bags can get heavy before you even pack them. This one is listed at just 5.95 lbs, which is very light for a large softside suitcase.

Check Current Price & Availability →

Why the Large Soft Stripe Caught My Attention

After using the medium Soft Stripe, the large version makes a lot of sense. It keeps the same general softside design, expandable packing space, spinner wheels, adjustable handle, TSA-approved lock and lightweight construction, but gives you quite a bit more room.

For cruise travel, that can be a real advantage. Longer cruises, colder-weather itineraries, European trips, formal nights, extra shoes, packing cubes, jackets, toiletries and pre-cruise hotel stays can all add bulk quickly.

A smaller checked bag can be great for a lighter trip. But sometimes you just need more room. The Antler Soft Stripe Large Luggage looks like the bigger option in the lineup for those trips where the medium is not quite enough.

Large Capacity, Still Lightweight

The Antler Soft Stripe Large is listed with a 105L packing capacity and a maximum expanded volume of 122L. That is a lot of packing space.

Even with that capacity, the listed weight is just 5.95 lbs. That is one of the most interesting things about this bag. A lighter suitcase gives you more of your airline weight allowance for the things you are actually packing.

That can be especially useful for cruises because cruise packing often includes items that are not part of a normal hotel trip. Think dressier clothes, swimwear, sandals, beach items, laundry supplies, medications, electronics, magnetic hooks, toiletries and cruise-specific extras.

Medium vs Large Soft Stripe

The medium Soft Stripe is a great in-between checked bag. That is the version I have and really like. It gives you more room than a carry-on without automatically jumping to a huge checked suitcase.

The large version is the next step up. It is the one I would look at for longer cruises, heavier packers, family trips, cold-weather travel or anyone who wants one larger checked suitcase instead of trying to squeeze everything into a smaller bag.

Bag Listed Capacity Listed Weight Best Fit
Antler Soft Stripe Medium 74L / 88L expanded 5.29 lbs Smaller checked bag, shorter cruises, lighter packing
Antler Soft Stripe Large 105L / 122L expanded 5.95 lbs Longer cruises, family travel, larger checked-bag packing

Learn More: Antler Soft Stripe Review!

Key Features

  • Large checked luggage size – useful for longer trips, bigger cruise packing lists and travelers who want more room.
  • 105L packing capacity – lots of space for clothing, shoes, toiletries, jackets and cruise extras.
  • Expandable design – expands from 12.2 inches to 14.2 inches deep, with a listed maximum volume of 122L.
  • Very lightweight for a large bag – Antler lists this suitcase at 5.95 lbs.
  • Softside construction – flexible for packing cubes, shoes, layers and last-minute extras.
  • Four spinner wheels – designed for upright rolling through airports, hotels and cruise terminals.
  • Adjustable handle – helpful for maneuvering a larger suitcase.
  • TSA-approved combination lock – built-in lock for checked travel.
  • Interior organization – deep compartments and internal pockets help organize a larger packing load.
  • Recycled polyester – Antler lists the suitcase as made with recycled polyester.

Why This Could Be a Good Cruise Bag

Cruise packing is different from regular travel. Even when you are trying to pack light, cruises can require a surprising amount of stuff.

You may be packing for sea days, port days, dinners, excursions, pool time, formal night, pre-cruise travel, post-cruise travel and changing weather. That is where a larger checked suitcase can make sense.

The trick is finding a large bag that does not eat up too much weight before it is packed. That is where this Antler bag looks strong. At 5.95 lbs, it gives you a lot of listed packing capacity without starting out overly heavy.

Softside Luggage Still Makes Sense

Hardside luggage is popular, but we still like softside luggage for a lot of travel. Softside bags can be more forgiving when you are packing irregular items like shoes, toiletry bags, jackets, laundry bags and packing cubes.

A softside checked bag can also be easier to work with when you are trying to fit a little more into the suitcase without everything feeling rigid. For cruise travel, where packing lists tend to get bulky, that flexibility can be useful.

Who This Bag May Make Sense For

The Antler Soft Stripe Large Luggage may make sense for:

  • Longer cruises
  • Cold-weather cruises
  • European cruises with pre-cruise or post-cruise hotel stays
  • Travelers who pack dressier clothes or extra shoes
  • Families sharing suitcase space
  • Anyone who wants one larger checked bag instead of multiple smaller bags
  • Travelers who like softside luggage
  • Anyone who wants a large suitcase that starts out unusually light

Related: What size luggage should I take on my cruise?

Cruise Packing Tips for a Large Checked Bag

  • Use packing cubes so the larger space does not turn into a messy pile.
  • Pack heavier items toward the wheel end of the suitcase.
  • Use the expansion zipper as flexibility, not as an excuse to overpack.
  • Weigh the packed bag before heading to the airport.
  • Use a bright luggage tag or luggage strap so the bag is easier to spot.
  • Keep passports, cruise documents, medication, electronics, chargers, valuables and a change of clothes in your carry-on or personal item.
  • Once onboard, unpack and store the suitcase under the cruise cabin bed if space allows.

About Antler Luggage

Antler is a British luggage brand with roots going back to 1914. The company makes suitcases, travel bags and accessories, and its current lineup includes both hard shell and softside luggage options.

The Soft Stripe line is especially interesting because of the lightweight softside construction. I was impressed enough with the medium version that the large version immediately made sense as a bigger checked-bag option.

Final Thoughts

I love the medium Antler Soft Stripe bag. It hits a really useful middle ground for travel, and it has been one of the more interesting luggage finds I have come across.

The Antler Soft Stripe Large Luggage takes a lot of that same appeal and scales it up. You get a larger checked suitcase, expandable packing space, softside flexibility, spinner wheels, a TSA-approved lock and a very light listed weight for the size.

For cruise travel, this looks like a strong option when the medium bag is not quite enough. It is especially interesting for longer trips, bigger packing lists or anyone who wants a large checked bag without starting with a heavy suitcase.

Top Magnets Heavy Duty Magnetic Hooks for Cruise Cabins: These Are Monsters!, 3-Count – On Sale for $11.88, $3.96 Each

Top Magnets Heavy Duty Magnetic Hooks for Cruise Cabins:

Top Magnets Heavy Duty Magnetic Hooks for Cruise Cabins: These Are Monsters

Heavy duty magnetic hooks for cruise cabins can be one of the simplest ways to make a small cabin feel more organized. Cruise cabin walls, doors and even ceilings are often made with metal surfaces, which means magnetic hooks can give you extra hanging spots without tape, suction cups or permanent hardware.

There are a few small items that can really help organize your cabin for a more enjoyable vacation, and magnetic hooks are near the top of that list. Use them for hats, lanyards, lightweight bags, wet swimsuits, toiletry bags, decorations and other small travel items that otherwise end up piled on counters, chairs or the floor.

These Are Monsters!

Compared to the average hook magnets that we have seen people use for cruising, these are monsters. That includes the magnetic hooks we have been using. These are chunky, but still small enough to pack easily.

The big difference is that, unlike a lot of smaller magnetic hooks on the market, these actually hold something. The product listing rates these at up to 150 lbs in vertical suspension and up to 50 lbs in horizontal suspension, but that is an ideal rating. Real-world holding power depends on the surface, thickness and direction of pull.

For cruise cabin use, that means they can be especially useful on ceilings or strong metal surfaces, while wall use may hold less because the hook is being pulled sideways. Either way, these are much more substantial than many of the tiny cruise magnet packs people buy.

Learn More: Hands on Review: Top Magnets Heavy Duty Magnetic Hooks… These actually hold something!

Ways to Use Magnetic Hooks in a Cruise Cabin

  • Hang hats, lanyards and cruise cards near the door
  • Keep small bags, purses or lightweight backpacks off the floor
  • Hang wet swimsuits or coverups in a better spot to dry
  • Add extra hooks in the bathroom area for toiletry bags or travel towels
  • Use ceiling placement for items that need a stronger straight-down hold
  • Keep jackets, hoodies or beach bags easier to grab
  • Hang lightweight decorations without using tape

A Note About Cruise Cabin Walls and Magnet Strength

Magnetic hooks can be great in cruise cabins, but holding strength is not the same in every spot. A magnet may hold very strongly on one wall or ceiling panel and much less strongly on another. Painted surfaces, thinner metal, textured surfaces and sideways pull can all reduce holding power.

For best results, test the hook before loading it up. Start with lighter items and use the ceiling when you need the strongest hold. These hooks are strong, but you should still use common sense and avoid hanging anything fragile, messy or too heavy over beds, heads or breakable items.

Bottom Line

These heavy duty magnetic hooks are a small cruise cabin organization upgrade that can make a noticeable difference. If you want magnetic hooks that feel more substantial and can handle more useful cabin organizing tasks, these are worth a look.

Stainless Steel Small Clothes Pins for Travel: Tiny Clips That Do a Lot – A Must-Pack Item For Us

Stainless Steel Small Clothes Pins for Travel: Tiny Clips That Do a Lot

Stainless Steel Small Clothes Pins

Stainless steel small clothes pins are one of those simple travel items that have become a must-pack item for us. I always keep a few in my bag because they are small, lightweight, reusable and useful for a lot more than laundry.

I use them for hanging up clothes, clipping snacks closed, securing small items and more. They are compact and well made, and because they are stainless steel, they feel like a nice upgrade over flimsy plastic clips or bulky wooden clothespins.

Check Current Price & Availability →

Why Pack Small Stainless Steel Clothes Pins?

Travel laundry can be awkward. Hotel bathrooms, cruise cabins and vacation rentals do not always give you a great place to hang wet clothes, swimsuits or small items. A few compact clips can make it easier to hang things from a travel clothesline, shower line, hanger, balcony chair or other suitable spot.

These clips are also handy outside of laundry. Use them as snack bag clips, paper clips, cord organizers, towel clips, photo clips or small utility clips around your room or cabin. They are not exciting, but they are genuinely useful.

Good Uses for Travel and Cruising

  • Hanging swimsuits to dry
  • Clipping socks or small clothing items to a travel clothesline
  • Keeping snack bags closed
  • Securing small papers, receipts or excursion tickets
  • Clipping lightweight items to a hanger
  • Using as compact utility clips in a cruise cabin, hotel room or camper

Why Stainless Steel?

Plastic clips can crack, wooden clips can absorb moisture and both can take up more room than you might want in a small travel kit. Stainless steel clips are compact, strong for their size and better suited for repeated use around damp clothing, bathrooms and outdoor spaces.

Because these are small wire clips, they are easy to tuck into a toiletry bag, laundry kit, packing cube or side pocket. You do not need to pack the whole set for one trip. A handful is usually plenty.

Product Notes

According to the product listing, this set includes 40 stainless steel wire clips. The listed size is approximately 2 inches by 0.5 inches by 1 inch. They are designed for laundry, kitchen, office, outdoor and travel use.

As with many Amazon listings, multiple variations or sellers may be available from the same product page. Check the product page for the current description, package count, price and availability before ordering.

Bottom Line

These stainless steel small clothes pins are a simple, inexpensive travel accessory that can be used again and again. They are especially useful for drying swimsuits and small laundry items, but they also work as snack clips and general purpose travel clips.

For us, these are a must-pack item. I always keep a few in my bag. They take up very little room and have lots of uses.

Antler Soft Stripe Medium Luggage – Save 26% + Hands-On Review

ANTLER - Soft Stripe Medium Luggage

Antler Soft Stripe Medium Luggage: A Rare In-Between Size for Cruise Travel

I have been looking for something very specific: a suitcase that lands between a typical carry-on and a medium checked bag. That size range is surprisingly hard to find.

Related: Antler Soft Stripe Review!

We have used Travelpro Maxlite 5 21-inch carry-on bags and the Travelpro Maxlite 5 25-inch checked bags and have liked them very much. The 21-inch Maxlite is a great carry-on, and the 25-inch Maxlite has been our go-to checked bag for cruise travel. But there are times when a carry-on feels too tight and a full 25-inch checked bag feels like more suitcase than I want to take.

That is why I picked up the Antler Soft Stripe Medium Luggage. It has a rare middle-ground capacity: more useful packing space than a standard carry-on, but not as large as many traditional medium checked bags.

Check Current Price & Availability →

Why This Size Makes Sense

Most luggage jumps from carry-on size to a fairly large checked bag. That can leave a gap for travelers who want more room than a carry-on, but still want to keep things compact and manageable.

That middle size can be especially useful for cruise travel. Cruise packing often involves more than just clothes. You may be packing shoes, toiletries, formal night clothing, swimsuits, layers, electronics, chargers, medications, cruise documents and pre-cruise or post-cruise hotel items. A standard carry-on can get tight quickly.

At the same time, not every trip needs a larger checked bag. For shorter cruises, warm-weather itineraries, solo trips, lighter packing, or travel that includes trains, taxis and hotels, a smaller checked bag can be much easier to manage.

The Rare Middle-Ground Capacity

This is the main reason I bought this bag. The Antler Soft Stripe Medium is listed with a 74L packing capacity and a maximum expanded volume of 88L.

On paper, 74L is a really interesting target capacity. It gives you roughly 60% more packing capacity than a 46L carry-on without going all the way to a 90L+ checked bag.

For comparison, the Travelpro Maxlite 5 21-inch carry-on is listed at 46L, while the Travelpro Maxlite 5 25-inch checked bag is listed at 91L. That makes the Antler Soft Stripe Medium much roomier than a carry-on, but still a step down from the larger checked suitcase we normally use.

Size Comparison

Bag Listed Capacity Listed Weight General Role
Travelpro Maxlite 5 21-inch Carry-On 46L 5.4 lbs Carry-on travel
Antler Soft Stripe Medium Luggage 74L packing capacity / 88L max volume 5.29 lbs Smaller checked bag / in-between size
Travelpro Maxlite 5 25-inch Checked Bag 91L 6.8 lbs Full medium checked bag

Why I Bought the Antler Soft Stripe Medium

The appeal here is simple: it gives me more room than a carry-on without automatically jumping to a larger checked bag.

That can be a really useful size for:

  • Shorter cruises where carry-on-only feels too tight
  • Warm-weather cruises with lighter clothing
  • Fly-to-cruise trips where you want to keep checked luggage manageable
  • European cruise travel where trains, taxis and sidewalks may be part of the trip
  • Travelers who want a checked bag but do not want to overpack
  • Anyone who likes the idea of a smaller checked suitcase with real packing capacity
  • European travel, especially trips where you cannot quite get down to a single carry-on

Why a Smaller Checked Bag Can Be a Good Cruise Choice

A lot of cruise packing advice focuses on either carry-on-only travel or larger checked suitcases. I think there is a very practical space in between.

A smaller checked bag gives you more room for real cruise packing, but it can still be easier to handle than a bigger suitcase. That matters when you are moving through airports, hotel lobbies, cruise terminals, parking lots, elevators and cabin hallways.

It can also help limit overpacking. Larger bags are easy to fill just because the space is there. A middle-size checked bag gives you extra room compared with a carry-on, but still encourages a more focused packing list.

Softside Luggage for Cruise Travel

We still like softside luggage for a lot of travel. Hardside bags are popular, but softside luggage can be more forgiving when you are packing around shoes, packing cubes, toiletry bags, jackets and last-minute extras.

The exterior pocket is also useful. I would not use it for valuables, but it can be handy for flat or flexible items before the bag gets checked. Think printed paperwork, a lightweight jacket, luggage tag holders or other non-valuable items you may want to access before handing the bag over.

How I Plan to Use This Bag

I bought this as a smaller checked bag option. For trips where the Travelpro 21-inch carry-on feels too small but the Travelpro 25-inch checked bag feels like too much, this Antler bag looks like a very useful middle-ground choice.

For cruise travel, I can see using it as the main checked bag for a shorter or lighter-packing trip, then pairing it with a personal item or small carry-on for essentials.

As always, anything truly important should stay with you. Keep passports, IDs, boarding documents, medications, electronics, valuables, chargers and a change of clothes in your carry-on or personal item.

Cruise Packing Tips for This Size

  • Use packing cubes to keep the smaller checked-bag space organized.
  • Pack shoes toward the wheel end of the suitcase.
  • Use the expansion zipper as extra flexibility, not as an invitation to overpack.
  • Weigh the packed bag before flying.
  • Use a bright luggage tag or luggage strap so the bag is easy to spot.
  • Keep cruise documents, medication, electronics and valuables with you.
  • Unpack once onboard, then store the suitcase under the cruise cabin bed if space allows.

About Antler Luggage

Antler is a British luggage brand with roots going back to 1914. The company makes suitcases, travel bags and accessories, and its current lineup includes both hard shell and softside luggage options.

I was not specifically shopping for a new luggage brand when I found this bag. The size is what caught my attention first. But Antler’s long luggage background, lightweight softside design and this unusual medium capacity made the Soft Stripe Medium worth trying.

Who This Bag May Make Sense For

The Antler Soft Stripe Medium Luggage may make sense for travelers who want more packing room than a carry-on without moving up to a larger checked suitcase.

It looks especially interesting for cruisers who pack thoughtfully, want a lighter checked bag, or want something easier to manage during fly-to-cruise travel. The size is the star here. It fills a gap that many luggage lines skip over.

Final Thoughts

We have had very good luck with our Travelpro Maxlite 5 21-inch and 25-inch bags, so I was not necessarily looking to replace those. I was looking for something more specific: a rare in-between size.

That is what made the Antler Soft Stripe Medium Luggage interesting enough for me to buy. It sits between a carry-on and our larger 25-inch checked bag in terms of packing capacity, while staying very light for a checked suitcase.

For cruise travel, that could be a really useful size. I will update after I have more real-world travel time with it, but based on the dimensions, capacity and weight, this is exactly the kind of middle-ground bag I had been trying to find.

Mini Duct Tape for Travel: Tiny Tape for Big Travel Problems, 4-Pack – $8.49, $2.12 each

mini duct tape for travel

Mini Duct Tape for Travel: Tiny Tape for Big Travel Problems

Duct tape can do a lot of things… a lot of things. It even helped bring Apollo 13 safely back to Earth. 🙂

For travel, duct tape can be a trip-saver in much smaller but still very real ways. After an airline shredded most of my luggage on a cruise out of Miami, duct tape became the way I kept my suitcase closed for the rest of the trip. Ever since then, I have considered duct tape one of those small emergency items that is worth having along.

The problem is that a full roll of duct tape is bulky and awkward to pack. That is where mini duct tape for travel makes sense. This Innconee mini travel duct tape set gives you the usefulness of duct tape in compact flat rolls that are much easier to keep in a suitcase, carry-on, backpack, glove box or travel emergency kit.

Check Current Price & Availability at Amazon →

Why Pack Mini Duct Tape for Travel?

Duct tape is useful, but a regular roll is not ideal for packing. It is bulky, it takes up more space than most travelers want to give it and it is easy to leave behind because it feels like overkill.

Mini duct tape solves that problem. You get a practical amount of tape in a compact shape that is much easier to carry. It is not something you pack because you expect your luggage to break. It is something you pack because when something does go wrong, a few inches of strong tape can make a huge difference.

For the space it takes up, mini duct tape can help with torn bags, damaged packaging, loose gear, ripped rain covers, cracked plastic, temporary patches and dozens of small fixes that are hard to predict ahead of time.

What You Get

This listing is for a 4-pack of silver mini duct tape flat rolls. Each roll is listed at 1.77 inches wide by 10 feet long. The flat shape is the key feature for travel because it packs more neatly than a traditional round roll.

  • 4 flat rolls of travel duct tape
  • Listed size: 1.77 inches wide x 10 feet long per roll
  • Silver color
  • Designed to be torn by hand
  • Flat pocket-size shape for packing
  • Useful for travel, camping, hiking, emergency kits and general quick repairs

Because this is a 4-pack, you can split the rolls up. Put one in your checked bag, one in your carry-on, one in the car and one in a travel emergency kit.

Good Travel Uses for Mini Duct Tape

Mini duct tape for travel is useful because travel creates little problems that are annoying but not always serious enough to replace something immediately. A temporary patch can get you through the airport, the hotel stay, the drive home or the rest of the cruise.

  • Luggage fixes: Reinforce a small tear, hold down a loose flap or temporarily secure a damaged pocket.
  • Keeping a damaged suitcase closed: Tape can help hold a bag together long enough to get through a trip or get home.
  • Bag organization: Tape down a loose strap, label a pouch or mark an item so it is easier to identify.
  • Rain gear repairs: Patch a small tear in a poncho, umbrella cover, backpack cover or similar travel item.
  • Packaging repairs: Reseal a torn box, damaged toiletry bag or broken plastic container.
  • Charging cord management: Bundle cords or temporarily hold a cable in place while packing.
  • Emergency fixes: Patch a small crack, reinforce a weak spot or hold something together until you can make a better repair.

I would not expect this to replace a real repair, but that is not the point. The point is having something small that can help when you are away from your normal tools and supplies.

Cruise Uses

Mini duct tape is also a good fit for cruising because once you are on the ship, you cannot always run to a store for a quick repair item. You may be able to buy something in port, but that is not always convenient and it may not be worth spending port time looking for tape.

For cruises, I would use mini duct tape for travel-related fixes like luggage, packing cubes, toiletry bags, damaged packaging and quick gear repairs. It can also be useful before embarkation if a luggage tag, bag handle or outer pocket needs a quick temporary fix.

One important note: I would avoid using duct tape on cruise cabin walls, furniture, doors or painted surfaces. It is better for your own belongings than for ship surfaces. If in doubt, ask your room steward.

Why Flat Rolls Are Better for Packing

The flat-roll design is what makes this especially useful for travel. A standard round roll of duct tape is awkward in a suitcase. A flat roll can slide into a pocket, pouch, toiletry kit, backpack compartment or glove box.

Flat rolls are also easier to divide between bags. That matters because the best emergency item is the one you actually have with you when you need it. Keeping a small roll in more than one place increases the chance that you will have tape nearby when something goes wrong.

This is a good example of a small packing upgrade. It does not take much space, it is inexpensive and it can solve problems that would otherwise be frustrating.

Things to Know Before You Pack It

Duct tape is handy, but it should be used with common sense. Adhesive performance can vary by surface, temperature, moisture and how clean the item is. For best results, use it on dry, reasonably clean surfaces when possible.

  • Use it as a temporary repair, not a permanent fix.
  • Avoid applying it to hotel or cruise ship walls, furniture, painted surfaces or delicate finishes.
  • Do not use duct tape directly on skin as a substitute for medical tape.
  • Do not use it as an electrical safety fix.
  • Test carefully on delicate materials because adhesives can sometimes leave residue or affect surfaces.

For most travelers, the best use is simple: keep a flat roll available for quick fixes to your own gear.

Final Thoughts

Mini duct tape for travel is a small item that can punch above its weight in your packing list. It is not exciting, but it is practical. A flat roll takes up very little room and can help with luggage repairs, torn gear, damaged packaging, loose straps and other small travel problems.

This 4-pack format makes sense because you can keep rolls in multiple places instead of relying on a single emergency kit. I like this kind of item for travel because it is cheap, compact and useful in situations where a quick temporary fix is all you need.

LEVEL8 Grace Carry-On Luggage: Expandable Hardside Suitcase with Front Laptop Pocket – $127 on Lightning Deals

LEVEL8 Grace Hardside Carry On Luggage with Front Compartment, 20 Inch Expandable Suitcases with Wheels, Lightweight Carry On Suitcase for Airplane, Tsa Lock Approved, Black, 20-Inch

LEVEL8 Grace Carry-On Luggage: Expandable Hardside Suitcase with Front Laptop Pocket

The LEVEL8 Grace Carry-On Luggage is an expandable hardside suitcase with one feature that makes it stand out: a front laptop compartment. Most hardside carry-ons require you to open the entire suitcase to reach anything inside. This one gives you quicker access to a laptop, tablet, documents, boarding passes and other travel essentials.

That makes it an interesting option for business travel, weekend trips, flights to cruise ports and travelers who like the structure of hardside luggage but still want easier access to important items.

This is the 20-inch expandable version in black. The Amazon listing describes it as a carry-on suitcase with a PC+ABS hardside shell, 360-degree spinner wheels, aluminum telescoping handle, built-in TSA lock and front zippered laptop compartment.

Check Current Price & Availability →

In This Post

Why This Carry-On Is Interesting

Hardside carry-ons are popular because they offer structure, protection and a clean look. The downside is that many of them do not have easy-access exterior pockets. If you need your laptop, passport, paperwork, headphones or charging cable, you may have to open the entire suitcase.

The LEVEL8 Grace carry-on solves that problem with a front compartment built into the hardside design. That gives it some of the convenience of softside luggage while keeping the harder shell format many travelers prefer.

If you travel with a laptop or tablet, that front access section is the main reason to consider this bag over a basic hardside spinner.

  • Shell material: PC+ABS
  • Wheels: 360-degree spinner wheels

Front Laptop Compartment

The front compartment is the big selling point here. It gives you a place for a laptop, tablet, documents and small travel items without opening the main suitcase.

That can be helpful at the airport, during a layover, at a hotel or any time you want quick access to electronics and paperwork. It also may let you keep your personal item smaller since some of your tech gear can ride in the suitcase instead.

The tradeoff is that a front laptop compartment uses some of the overall suitcase space. That is normal for this style of bag. The benefit is easier access; the downside is a slightly different packing layout compared with a basic open-shell carry-on.

Expandable Hardside Design

This is the expandable version of the LEVEL8 Grace carry-on. The listed packing volume is 36L and expands to 42L. That extra room can be useful on the return trip when your packing is less tidy or when you pick up a few extras.

The important detail is size. Once expanded, the depth increases from 9.8 inches to 11.3 inches. That may push the bag beyond some airline carry-on limits, so I would treat expansion as a useful bonus rather than something to rely on for every flight.

Expanded mode makes the most sense for road trips, hotel stays, cruise travel where you are not flying, or situations where you are okay checking the bag if needed.

Good Travel Uses

This suitcase is a good fit for short trips where organization and quick access matter. The hardside shell gives the bag structure, while the front pocket makes it more practical than a completely closed hardside design.

  • Business trips: The front laptop compartment is useful for work travel.
  • Weekend trips: The 36L to 42L capacity range works well for shorter travel.
  • Airport travel: Keep tech and documents easier to reach.
  • Hotel stays: The structured design helps keep items organized.
  • Road trips: The expandable design is handy when airline sizing is not a concern.
  • Hardside luggage fans: You get a hard shell with better quick-access storage.

The spinner wheels and telescoping handle are also practical for airports, hotel lobbies, parking garages and cruise terminals.

Cruise Travel Angle

For cruising, this could work well as an embarkation day carry-on, especially if you fly to your cruise port. You can use it for the items you want with you before checked luggage reaches your cabin.

That could include a change of clothes, toiletries, medications, travel documents, electronics, chargers, swimsuit, sunscreen and other first-day essentials. The front compartment is especially useful for passports, boarding documents, tablets and small electronics.

I would see this as a personal carry-on, short-cruise suitcase or pre-cruise hotel bag rather than a replacement for a checked bag on longer trips.

Important Carry-On Size Note

The Amazon listing gives the overall dimensions as 21.8” x 14.5” x 9.8” including wheels and handles. That is close to many common carry-on limits, but airline rules vary.

The expanded depth is listed at 11.3 inches. That is the dimension I would watch most carefully. Expansion is useful, but an expanded carry-on may not fit every airline’s published carry-on size rules or every overhead bin situation.

Before flying, compare the suitcase dimensions to your airline’s current carry-on rules, especially if you are flying a budget airline, international carrier or small regional aircraft.

Things to Consider

This suitcase has a lot going for it, but it is not the right carry-on for every traveler. The front laptop pocket is the standout feature, but it also changes how the bag packs.

  • Weight: At 9 lbs, this is not the lightest carry-on option.
  • Expanded size: The expanded depth may be too large for some carry-on rules.
  • Front pocket tradeoff: Easy tech access can reduce or reshape the main packing space.
  • Hardside structure: Hardside luggage protects and organizes well, but it does not flex like softside luggage.
  • Airline rules vary: Always check the airline you are actually flying.

For the right traveler, those tradeoffs may be reasonable. The key question is whether the front compartment is a feature you will actually use.

Final Thoughts

The LEVEL8 Grace Carry-On Luggage is worth a look if you want a hardside carry-on with easier access to your laptop, tablet and travel documents. The front compartment is the main reason to consider this suitcase over a basic hardside spinner.

I especially like the idea of this for business travel, flights to cruise ports, short trips and travelers who want electronics accessible without carrying a large separate laptop bag. The expandable design adds flexibility, but I would be careful about using expanded mode when airline carry-on sizing matters.

Bottom line: if you like hardside luggage but miss the convenience of an outside pocket, this LEVEL8 Grace expandable carry-on is a practical option to compare against more traditional carry-on suitcases.

ANTLER Soft Stripe 2.0 Medium Luggage Review: A Rare In-Between Checked Bag

I had been looking for something very specific: a suitcase that lands between a typical carry-on and a medium checked bag. That size range is surprisingly hard to find.

Check ANTLER Soft Stripe 2.0 Prices

The ANTLER Soft Stripe 2.0 line is available in multiple sizes. The medium is the in-between size I purchased, but the carry-on and large checked bag may also make sense depending on how you travel. Pricing and availability can vary by retailer, size and color, so check both Amazon and ANTLER direct before buying.

This is a hands-on first look and size comparison based on having the bag in hand. I will update this after more real-world travel time with it.

In This Post

The ANTLER Soft Stripe Medium is listed with a 74 – 88 L packing capacity and a maximum volume range of 84 – 99 L.

  • European travel, especially trips where you cannot quite get down to a single carry-on and still need to manage trains, taxis, sidewalks and hotels
  • Travelers who want a checked bag but do not want to overpack
  • Anyone who likes the idea of a smaller checked suitcase with real packing capacity

This is the Soft Stripe Medium next to Travelpro Maxlite 5 25-inch checked bag. Both taper toward the top, presumably to keep the center of gravity lower so the bag is less likely to tip. The Soft Stripe looks to be more of a rectangular shape with less tapering. I really like this because max thickness comes into play when trying to shove a bag in a tight space. For example, that could matter when using an overhead luggage rack on the train from London to Southampton.

Double Spinner Wheels vs Single Spinner Wheels

When comparing suitcases, one detail worth looking at is the wheel design. Some spinner luggage uses single wheels at each corner, while other bags use double spinner wheels, meaning two smaller wheels side-by-side at each corner.

For cruise and travel use, double spinner wheels can be a nice upgrade. The wider wheel setup can help the suitcase feel more stable when rolling upright through airports, hotels, cruise terminals and ship corridors. They can also make the bag easier to turn, pivot and guide in tight spaces.

Single spinner wheels are simpler. They may be slightly lighter and have fewer moving parts, but they can sometimes feel less stable on a fully packed suitcase, especially when the bag is being pushed upright instead of pulled behind you.

  • Double spinner wheels: Usually feel smoother, steadier and easier to maneuver on flat indoor surfaces.
  • Single spinner wheels: Simpler design and sometimes lighter, but may not feel quite as stable when the bag is packed full.
  • Best surfaces: Spinner wheels work especially well in airports, hotels, cruise terminals and ship hallways.
  • Rough surfaces: Any spinner wheel can struggle on cobblestones, gravel, uneven sidewalks or rough pavement.

For most situations, I like double spinner wheels when the suitcase is otherwise well made. They tend to make a checked bag or carry-on easier to manage during the parts of travel where luggage gets handled the most: airports, hotels, terminals and getting to and from the ship.

ANTLER Luggage Default Lock Code

ANTLER Soft Stripe Medium main zipper and TSA lock

If you are wondering about the ANTLER luggage default lock code, the factory setting for ANTLER TSA locks is 000. On a new ANTLER suitcase, line up the dials to 0-0-0 and slide the release button to open the lock and release the zipper pulls.

That is also the starting point for setting your own combination. Before changing the code, make sure the lock is open and the dials are set to 000.

How to Set the ANTLER TSA Lock

  1. Set the dials to 000.
  2. Open the lock and release the zipper pulls.
  3. Press the small reset button with a pen or similar pointed object until it clicks.
  4. Turn the dials to your preferred 3-digit combination.
  5. Push the release button back in the direction of the arrow until the reset button clicks back into place.
  6. Test the new code before locking the zipper pulls back into the suitcase.

Important: Write your new code down somewhere safe. If the combination has already been changed, the default 000 code will probably no longer open the suitcase. ANTLER says there is no master key for forgotten combinations, so it is worth setting and testing the lock carefully before travel.

How Light Is the ANTLER Soft Stripe 2.0?

One of the most impressive things about the ANTLER Soft Stripe 2.0 line is the weight. These bags are very light for spinner luggage, especially when you look at the amount of packing space they provide.

The medium size I bought is listed at just 5.2 lbs. That is extremely light for a checked suitcase with a listed 74 – 88 L packing capacity, expandable design, front pocket, TSA lock, double spinner wheels and multiple handles.

The full Soft Stripe 2.0 lineup is light across the board:

  • ANTLER Soft Stripe 2.0 Carry-On: 4.1 lbs
  • ANTLER Soft Stripe 2.0 Medium Expandable: 5.2 lbs
  • ANTLER Soft Stripe 2.0 Large Expandable: 5.9 lbs

Those are impressive weights. I do not know that I can conclusively say these are the lightest bags on the market, but they have to be among the lightest spinner suitcases in their size range. That matters because luggage weight is not just a spec-sheet detail. Every pound the empty suitcase weighs is a pound you cannot use for clothes, shoes, toiletries, cruise gear or souvenirs before getting close to airline weight limits.

For cruise travel and Europe trips, lighter luggage is also easier to manage. You may be moving through airports, hotels, cruise terminals, train stations, sidewalks, elevators and cabin hallways. Starting with a lighter suitcase makes all of that a little easier, especially if you are trying to pack more than a carry-on without jumping to a bulky checked bag.

Storage Bag

Included storage bag for ANTLER Soft Stripe Medium luggage

As a bag lover, there is nothing like your bag coming with its own bag. Seriously though, this is another small thing that is thoughtful. I use plastic bags for some of my other bags. The inclusion of a purpose-built storage bag is a really nice bonus. This sort of attention to detail makes ANTLER stand out.

For cruise travel, and especially for trips where a single carry-on is not quite enough, this could be a really useful size. I will update after I have more real-world travel time with it, but based on the dimensions, capacity, weight and hands-on comparison, this is exactly the kind of middle-ground bag I had been trying to find.

More real-world observations to come, but so far I’m very impressed with this luggage.

Travel Inspira Battery-Free Luggage Scale for Travel: A Simple Way to Avoid Overweight Bags (What I Use!) – on sale for $16.98, save 35%

Battery-Free Luggage Scale for Travel: A Simple Way to Avoid Overweight Bag Surprises

Travel Inspira Battery-Free Luggage Scale

A small luggage scale is one of those travel items you may not think about every trip, but when you need it, it can save real money and hassle. It helps you check your suitcase weight before you leave home, before you head back to the airport and after you have added souvenirs, shoes, toiletries or extra travel gear along the way.

I regularly carry a luggage scale when we travel, and it has saved us money, time and frustration. It has helped us avoid overweight bag fees, and just as importantly, it has helped us avoid the hassle of repacking bags at the airline ticket counter.

This travel inspira Battery-Free Luggage Scale is especially interesting because it solves one of the most annoying problems with travel scales: dead batteries. I chose this model because it is battery free. That means there is no coin-cell battery to replace, no charging cable to remember and no wondering whether the scale will actually turn on when you need it.

Check Current Price & Availability →

Why a Luggage Scale Makes Sense for Travel

Airline baggage limits are one of those things that are easy to forget until you are standing at the check-in counter. A luggage scale gives you a quick way to check your bag before that moment.

This is useful before you leave home, but it can be even more useful on the return trip. Clothes do not usually get lighter after a week away. Add in souvenirs, gifts, extra toiletries, snacks, wet swimwear or a few purchases, and a bag that was safely under the limit on the way out can become a problem on the way home.

A small scale also makes it easier to move items between bags before leaving for the airport. That can be much easier in a hotel room than trying to repack on the floor near the airline counter.

Why This Battery-Free Design Is Useful

The main feature here is the battery-free design. Many digital luggage scales use small batteries, and one frustrating travel scenario is packing a scale only to find out the batteries are dead when you actually need it.

This scale uses a slider on the side. Before using it, you slide that slider several times. That generates enough energy to power the scale long enough to weigh bags. Whatever the exact internal mechanism, the practical result is simple: a few slides of the slider and the scale is ready to use.

That makes this a good fit for travel because there is one less thing to maintain. You do not have to wonder whether the battery died in a drawer, whether you packed a charging cable or whether you can find the correct replacement battery while away from home.

Key Features

  • Battery-free operation
  • Side slider generates power before weighing
  • Handheld design
  • 110 lb / 50 kg weight capacity
  • LCD display
  • Pounds and kilograms support
  • Tare function
  • Overload warning
  • Compact size for packing in a carry-on, backpack or suitcase pocket

Good Uses for General Travel

For regular travel, this type of scale is useful in several common situations:

  • Before leaving home: Weigh checked bags before heading to the airport.
  • Before the return flight: Check bag weight after shopping, repacking or adding souvenirs.
  • For family travel: Shift items between suitcases so one bag is not overloaded while another has extra room.
  • For international trips: Switch between pounds and kilograms depending on the airline or destination.
  • For carry-on-only travel: Check backpack, duffel or roller bag weight when flying airlines with stricter cabin bag limits.

It is also handy for travelers who tend to pack close to the limit. A quick weight check can help you decide whether to move shoes, jackets, toiletries or books to another bag before leaving for the airport.

Why It Also Makes Sense for Cruising

Cruise lines are usually not the main reason to carry a luggage scale. The bigger issue is often the flight before or after the cruise.

This is where a luggage scale can be a helpful cruise accessory. Many cruisers fly to the embarkation port, stay in a hotel before sailing and then fly home after the cruise. By the end of the trip, luggage may include port purchases, gifts, extra clothing, duty-free items or things picked up during pre-cruise and post-cruise travel.

A luggage scale gives you a way to check bags in the hotel room, cruise cabin or airport hotel before the return flight. That is a lot easier than discovering an overweight bag when you are already at the airline counter.

How to Use It

Before weighing, slide the side slider several times to power the scale. Attach the strap to your suitcase handle, lift the bag steadily and keep it balanced while the scale gets a reading.

For the most consistent results:

  • Keep the bag from swinging.
  • Lift smoothly and steadily.
  • Hold the scale level while weighing.
  • Weigh the bag more than once if you are close to the limit.
  • Leave a little margin instead of packing right up to the airline maximum.

A home luggage scale is a useful planning tool, but the airline scale is the one that ultimately matters. It is smart to leave a little buffer, especially if your bag is near the published weight limit.

Things to Keep in Mind

The battery-free design is the main advantage, but it also means you need to remember to slide the side slider before each use. That is a small tradeoff, but it is different from a standard battery-powered scale.

Heavy suitcases can also be awkward to lift with any handheld scale. For heavier checked bags, it may be easier to use two hands, keep the bag close to the floor and have another person read the display if needed.

This is best viewed as a compact travel tool, not a perfect replacement for an official airline scale. Its real value is giving you a quick check before you leave for the airport.

Bottom Line

The travel inspira Battery-Free Luggage Scale is a practical travel accessory for anyone who flies with checked luggage, packs close to airline limits or tends to come home with more than they packed.

After extensive use, I can highly recommend this scale. For general travel, it can help avoid overweight bag surprises and make repacking easier before flights. For cruising, it is especially useful when your cruise includes flights, hotel stays, shopping or souvenirs. The battery-free design makes it even more convenient because it is one less thing to charge, replace or worry about before a trip.

Anker Nano Travel Adapter for Travel and Cruises

Anker Nano Travel Adapter: Compact 5-Port Charger for Travel and Cruises

Anker Nano Travel Adapter

I purchased the Anker Nano Travel Adapter for a trip to Europe, and it has turned out to be a very useful travel adapter. What I like most is the combination of compact size, good build quality and broad usability. It is small enough to pack easily, but still gives you multiple charging options in one travel-friendly device.

This is the kind of travel accessory that can simplify your charging setup. Instead of packing several small USB chargers and separate country-specific plug adapters, this gives you one compact adapter with built-in plug options, USB-C ports, USB-A ports and an AC outlet.

For general travel, international trips, hotels, airports and some cruise cabin charging situations, that makes a lot of sense. For cruise travel in particular, it can also be useful because some cabins include a European-style outlet in addition to a North American outlet. With the right adapter and compatible electronics, that extra outlet can become a helpful charging option.

Check Current Price & Availability →

Why This Makes Sense for Travel

Modern travel usually means charging multiple devices. Phones, tablets, earbuds, smart watches, cameras, battery banks and e-readers all need power at some point. The Anker Nano Travel Adapter gives you several charging options in one small package.

It includes 2 USB-C ports, 2 USB-A ports and 1 AC outlet. That makes it useful for travelers who still have a mix of newer USB-C cables and older USB-A cables.

The compact design is also helpful. Travel bags fill up quickly, and a smaller adapter is easier to pack than a bulky universal adapter or a collection of individual chargers.

Good Uses for Trips and Cruises

  • International travel: Built-in plug support makes it useful across many common travel destinations.
  • Hotel rooms: Helpful when outlets are limited or awkwardly placed.
  • Cruise cabins: Potentially useful for making use of a European-style Type C outlet, depending on your cruise line’s current rules.
  • Airports and layovers: Useful for topping off phones, earbuds, tablets and battery banks.
  • Family travel: Helps reduce the number of individual charging blocks you need to pack.
  • One-bag travel: A small, consolidated charging setup can save space and reduce clutter.

What Plug Types Does It Support?

The Anker Nano Travel Adapter supports four common wall plug types: Type A, Type C, Type G and Type I. That gives it broad usefulness for international travel, hotels, airports and many cruise cabins with European-style outlets.

  • Type A: Common in the United States, Canada, Japan, Mexico and other North American, Central American and Caribbean destinations.
  • Type C: Common across much of Europe and often useful with European-style outlets found in many cruise cabins.
  • Type G: Common in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia and the UAE/Dubai.
  • Type I: Common in Australia, New Zealand, China and Argentina.

As always, check the specific outlet type for your destination before you travel. Outlet types can vary by country, region, hotel, ship and even by room.

Larger Countries and Regions Where This Can Be Useful

Anker Nano Travel Adapter Country Compatibility

Because this adapter supports several common plug types, it can be useful in many larger and frequently visited destinations. Examples include:

  • United States and Canada: Type A
  • Mexico: Type A
  • Japan: Type A
  • United Kingdom: Type G
  • Ireland: Type G
  • France, Germany, Italy, Spain and much of Europe: Type C-style two-pin compatibility is commonly useful, though outlet designs vary.
  • Singapore and Hong Kong: Type G
  • United Arab Emirates / Dubai: Type G
  • Australia and New Zealand: Type I
  • China: Type I and other outlet types may be encountered.
  • Argentina: Type I is commonly used.

This is one reason a multi-plug adapter can be useful for general travel. It can reduce the number of separate plug adapters you need to pack.

Helpful for Cruise Ship European Outlets

Related: Hands on Review: TESSAN International Power Plug with USB

One of the most useful cruise-specific features is the Type C plug support. This can allow you to make use of a European-style Type C outlet in your cruise cabin instead of relying only on the North American outlet.

That can be a big help because cruise cabins often have limited outlets, and some ships include a European-style 220V outlet near the desk or vanity. With the right adapter and the right device, that outlet can become useful for charging phones, tablets, earbuds, smart watches, e-readers, battery banks and other small electronics.

Note that this is not a voltage converter. Many modern electronics and USB chargers are designed to operate in the 220 volt range, but you should always check the label on your charger or device before plugging it in. For lots more about this, see: Cruise Ship Power Solutions – Making Use of the 220 Volt Cabin Outlet On Your Next Cruise.

Based on Royal Caribbean’s updated banned-items policy, this type of multi-plug adapter may not be allowed on Royal Caribbean sailings. See: Royal Caribbean Bans Multi-Plug Adapters and Extension Cords! On a recent European cruise, we took our adapters along but did not use them in the cabin.

USB-C and USB-A Charging

One thing I like about this style of adapter is that it supports both USB-C and USB-A. A lot of travel gear is moving to USB-C, but plenty of cables and accessories still use USB-A. Having both port types can make this more flexible than a USB-C-only charger.

The USB-C port can provide up to 20W when charging a single compatible device. That is useful for phones, earbuds, e-readers, smart watches and similar travel electronics. When multiple USB ports are used at the same time, the available USB power is shared across connected devices.

The main downside is that the AC outlet is not a grounded 3-prong outlet. That means it is not a good fit for grounded laptop chargers, some larger power bricks, UK 3-pin plugs, EU Schuko-style grounded plugs or other devices that require a grounded AC connection. For USB charging and small travel electronics, that may not matter. For travelers who need grounded AC plug support, a larger universal adapter may be a better fit.

Compared to a Larger Universal Travel Adapter

Anker Nano Travel Adapter Size Comparison

I own this Anker Nano Travel Adapter along with another, larger universal travel adapter. Both can be useful, but they pack very differently.

The Anker is the slimmer and lighter option. It is listed at about 3.39 x 1.97 x 0.98 inches and 3.77 ounces. That thin shape makes it easier to slide into a tech pouch, backpack pocket, carry-on organizer or personal item. If you are trying to keep your travel charging setup compact, that slim profile is one of the biggest advantages.

By comparison, the larger TESSAN-style universal adapter I own is more cube-shaped. It is listed at about 2.44 x 2.17 x 2.09 inches and 5.45 ounces. It is shorter than the Anker, but it is also thicker, heavier and takes up more space in a bag.

Adapter Listed Size Listed Weight Best Packing Advantage
Anker Nano Travel Adapter 3.39 x 1.97 x 0.98 in 3.77 oz Slimmer and lighter
TESSAN Universal Travel Adapter 2.44 x 2.17 x 2.09 in 5.45 oz Shorter, but thicker

The practical difference is easy to understand once both are in your hand. The Anker is better when I want something thin and easy to pack. The larger adapter takes up more room, but it can be useful when I want extra AC outlet flexibility.

For general travel, hotels, flights and lighter packing, I like the Anker’s slimmer shape. The tradeoff is that the Anker does not support grounded 3-prong AC plugs. For situations where grounded plug support or extra AC outlet flexibility matters more than compact size, the larger adapter still has a place. Which one makes more sense depends on whether your priority is smaller packing size or more AC outlet flexibility.

Either way, remember that travel adapters like these are not voltage converters. They adapt plug shapes and provide charging options, but your electronics still need to be compatible with the voltage available at your destination or on your cruise ship.

Not a Voltage Converter

This is an important point for international travel and cruising: the Anker Nano Travel Adapter is not a voltage converter. It adapts the plug shape and provides USB charging, but it does not convert 220V power to 110V or 110V power to 220V.

For small electronics and USB-powered devices, that is usually not a problem because many modern chargers are designed for worldwide input. Look for wording on your charger or device such as Input: 100-240V. That generally means the device is designed to work across common international voltage ranges.

For higher-wattage items like hair dryers, curling irons, flat irons, travel kettles or other heat-producing devices, check the device label carefully before using it internationally. Those devices are often where voltage compatibility becomes more important.

When in doubt, use the charger or power supply that came with the device and confirm that it supports the voltage at your destination.

Important Cruise Policy Note

Cruise line rules for power accessories vary, especially when it comes to surge protection, power strips, extension cords and multi-plug outlets. Because policies vary by cruise line, ship and sailing, you should check your cruise line’s current prohibited items policy before packing any power accessory.

For cruise cabin charging, USB-only chargers and cruise-line-compliant adapters may be the safer choice if your cruise line restricts multi-plug or surge-protected devices. This adapter can be useful for general travel and hotels, but it should not be assumed to be approved for every cruise line or every ship.

Smart Temperature Control

This adapter also includes smart temperature control. That is a useful feature for a compact travel adapter because charging multiple devices in a small space can generate heat.

Even with built-in protections, it is still a good idea to use common sense. Do not cover chargers while they are in use, avoid using damaged cables and unplug devices when charging is complete.

Good Fit for Light and Moderate Charging

The Anker Nano Travel Adapter is best suited for the small electronics most travelers carry every day. Phones, earbuds, watches, tablets, e-readers, cameras and portable battery banks are the kinds of devices that make sense with this adapter.

For laptops, larger USB-C devices or travelers who need high-speed charging for multiple power-hungry devices at once, a dedicated higher-wattage USB-C charger may still be worth packing. But for a compact travel adapter that can handle everyday charging, this is a useful setup.

Bottom Line

The Anker Nano Travel Adapter is a practical travel accessory for anyone who wants a compact way to handle international plug compatibility and everyday USB charging. I purchased this for a trip to Europe, and I like it because it is compact, well built and broadly useful for travel.

With Type A, Type C, Type G and Type I plug support, plus 2 USB-C ports, 2 USB-A ports and 1 AC outlet, it can reduce the number of chargers and adapters you need to pack. I especially like the slimmer shape compared to larger cube-style universal adapters. The larger adapter still has a place when grounded plug support or extra AC outlet flexibility matters, but the Anker is easier to pack when I want a compact travel charging setup.

For general travel, hotels, international trips and airports, this is a handy option to consider. For cruises, the Type C plug support may help you use a European-style cabin outlet, but be sure to check your cruise line’s current power accessory rules before packing it.

Pack All Water-Resistant Zipper Pouch: My Favorite Small Backpack Organizer

Pack All Water-Resistant Zipper Pouch: My Favorite Small Backpack Organizer

The Pack All Water-Resistant Zipper Pouch has earned a permanent spot in my backpack. I used this exact pouch for years, finally wore out my original one, tried to replace it with other similar bags I already owned and eventually ordered the same pouch again because none of the others worked quite as well for me.

For my use, the size and material are just right. It is thin enough to slide easily into a backpack or personal item, but big enough to hold the small necessities I like to keep together when traveling. I have used it for vitamins, prescription bottles and packets, and other small essentials that I do not want loose in my bag.

That is what makes this such a good cruise and travel organizer. It is not bulky. It’s not complicated. It is just a simple zip pouch that makes a backpack, carry-on or excursion bag easier to use.

Why I Like This Pouch

The biggest thing I like about this pouch is the balance of size, weight and flexibility. Some organizers are too bulky. Others are too small to be useful. This one hits a nice middle ground. It is thin and lightweight, but still large enough to hold everyday travel necessities.

For me, it works especially well as a backpack organizer. I use it for small items that I want to keep grouped together instead of letting them scatter around the bottom of my bag. That can include vitamins, prescription bottles or packets, cords, receipts, small travel items and other easy-to-lose essentials.

Good Cruise Uses

Cruise travel involves a lot of small, easy-to-misplace items. Chargers, medications, receipts, sunscreen packets, hand sanitizer, wipes, pens and other small essentials can quickly disappear into a carry-on, backpack or day bag.

  • Vitamins and prescriptions: A handy way to keep bottles, packets and other daily-use items together in a backpack or personal item.
  • Embarkation day essentials: Useful for keeping small must-have items easy to reach while boarding.
  • Cables and chargers: Good for phone cords, charging blocks, earbuds and other small electronics accessories.
  • Excursion bag: Helpful for sunscreen packets, lip balm, wipes, hand sanitizer, cash, receipts and other port-day items.
  • Backpack organization: Keeps small items from ending up loose at the bottom of your bag.
  • Travel paperwork: Can be used for printed confirmations, notes, shuttle information and other documents.

Water-Resistant, Not a Dry Bag

This pouch is described as water-resistant, which can be helpful in a travel bag, backpack, pool bag or beach tote. It can add a little extra protection from damp towels, light splashes, spills or general travel messes.

That said, I would not treat this as a true waterproof dry bag. For phones, passports, cash or important documents in heavy rain, on a small boat or at the beach, I would use an additional layer of protection. For everyday backpack and cruise organization, though, this style of pouch is very handy.

Thin, Lightweight and Easy to Pack

One of the reasons I like this pouch so much is that it does not take over my bag. It is thin enough to fit easily into a backpack, but still big enough to be useful. That combination makes it more practical than a lot of bulkier organizers.

For cruise packing, that matters. Small organizers are only helpful if they make your bag easier to use without adding unnecessary bulk. This pouch does that well.

Bottom Line

The Pack All Water-Resistant Zipper Pouch has been one of my favorite small backpack organizers for travel. I used my original pouch for years, wore it out, tried other similar bags and eventually ordered the same one again because it worked better for me than the alternatives I already owned.

For cruises, flights, hotel stays, road trips and everyday backpack organization, this is a simple but genuinely useful pouch. It is especially good for keeping vitamins, prescription bottles, travel packets and small necessities together and easy to find.
