Baseus PicoGo MagSafe Portable Charger: Slim Qi2 Charging for Travel & More

Running low on phone battery is inconvenient at home and even more frustrating when you are away from a convenient outlet. The Baseus PicoGo MagSafe Portable Charger combines a 10,000mAh battery with magnetic Qi2 wireless charging and faster USB-C wired charging.

Its slim, phone-sized design makes it practical for everyday carry, long workdays, flights, road trips and sightseeing. You can snap it onto a compatible iPhone when convenience matters or connect a USB-C cable when you want faster, more efficient charging.

Baseus PicoGo Specifications

Battery capacity 10,000mAh
Wireless charging Up to 15W Qi2
USB-C wired charging Up to 27W
Dimensions Approximately 4 x 2.67 x 0.5 inches
Weight Approximately 6 ounces
Charging options Magnetic wireless charging and USB-C
Magnetic compatibility iPhone 12 and newer with a compatible magnetic case, if used

10,000mAh Capacity in a Slim Design

A 10,000mAh power bank provides a useful balance between capacity and portability. It offers substantially more backup power than most ultra-small 5,000mAh magnetic batteries without becoming as bulky as many high-capacity power banks.

The exact amount of usable power will depend on your phone, charging method and operating conditions. Some energy is lost during voltage conversion, and wireless charging is generally less efficient than charging through a cable.

At approximately half an inch thick and six ounces, the PicoGo remains small enough to carry in a pocket, sling bag, purse, backpack or personal-item bag.

15W Qi2 Magnetic Wireless Charging

Qi2 combines wireless charging with magnetic alignment. Instead of carefully positioning a phone over a charging coil, the PicoGo attaches to the back of a compatible phone and holds the charging components in alignment.

The power bank can deliver up to 15W through Qi2 wireless charging. This makes it convenient when you are walking through an airport, sitting in a waiting room, attending an event or using your phone for navigation.

For the best connection, use it with a compatible iPhone or a properly aligned magnetic case. Thick cases, nonmagnetic cases and accessories positioned between the phone and power bank may weaken the magnetic hold or interfere with wireless charging.

27W USB-C Charging When Speed Matters

Wireless charging is convenient, but the USB-C connection is the better choice when charging speed and efficiency are priorities. The PicoGo supports up to 27W wired output through its USB-C port.

The USB-C connection also expands its usefulness beyond compatible iPhones. It can provide wired power to many phones, earbuds and other small USB-C devices, subject to their individual charging requirements.

Useful for Everyday Carry

A portable power bank is not just a travel accessory. The Baseus PicoGo can be useful during:

  • Long workdays and commutes
  • Concerts, festivals and sporting events
  • Conferences and trade shows
  • Outdoor activities and day trips
  • Power outages
  • Appointments and waiting rooms
  • Heavy navigation, photography or video use

Because the battery attaches directly to a compatible phone, you do not need to find a table or other flat surface before beginning a wireless charge. That can be especially convenient when moving between locations.

A Practical Power Bank for Travel

Travel days can put an unusual amount of demand on a phone. Mobile boarding passes, navigation, airline apps, hotel confirmations, tickets, photos, ride-sharing and entertainment can quickly drain a battery.

The PicoGo’s slim design makes it easy to keep accessible in a personal item rather than buried inside a suitcase. Its 10,000mAh capacity provides a useful reserve for flights, road trips, sightseeing and long days away from a hotel room.

Power banks containing lithium batteries must be packed in carry-on baggage rather than checked luggage. Review current FAA guidance and your individual airline’s rules before flying.

A Useful Option for Cruise Travel, Too

Although this is useful for many kinds of travel, the PicoGo can also help keep a phone running during port visits, shore excursions and long days taking photos around the ship.

This can be especially important on port-intensive itineraries. On our first European cruise trip, we were constantly using our phones for directions, tickets and itinerary information. After nearly running out of power during our first day in London, a power bank became something we carried and used every day. See: Why a Power Bank Is a Must-Pack Item for Trips to Europe.

A power bank can also help you make the most of limited cruise cabin outlets. Charge the power bank whenever a cabin outlet is available, then use it later to recharge your phone or another compatible USB device without occupying that outlet.

Keep the power bank protected from moisture, excessive heat and direct sunlight. Discontinue use if it becomes damaged, swollen or unusually hot.

Who Is the Baseus PicoGo Best For?

This power bank may be a good fit for someone who:

  • Uses a MagSafe-compatible iPhone
  • Wants more capacity than a typical 5,000mAh magnetic battery
  • Prefers a slim power bank without a bulky built-in stand
  • Wants both wireless and USB-C charging
  • Needs backup power for everyday use as well as travel

The 10,000mAh capacity does make it heavier than the smallest magnetic batteries. Someone who only needs an occasional emergency top-up may prefer a lighter 5,000mAh model. For long days and more substantial charging, however, the additional capacity may be worth the modest increase in size and weight.

Final Thoughts

The Baseus PicoGo MagSafe Portable Charger packages a 10,000mAh battery, 15W Qi2 wireless charging and up to 27W USB-C charging into a notably slim design.

It is useful enough for everyday carry while providing the capacity and charging options needed for flights, road trips, sightseeing and vacations. For cruise travelers, it has the added advantages of keeping a phone powered during long port days and helping stretch the limited charging options available in many cabins.

Unidapt European Travel Plug Adapter: Unlock the 220V Outlet on Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises

Royal Caribbean cruise 220v plug adapter

Unidapt European Travel Plug Adapter: Unlock the 220V Outlet on Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises

I’ve been a big proponent of using the 220-volt outlet in cruise cabins. A small European plug adapter is cheap, takes up almost no room and can magically give you access to another outlet that might otherwise go unused.

The Unidapt European travel plug adapter is especially interesting for Royal Caribbean cruisers because it provides one North American-style AC receptacle without adding a cord, USB ports or multiple AC outlets.

Important: This is a plug adapter, not a voltage converter. Only connect devices specifically rated to operate at the voltage supplied by the cruise ship outlet.

In This Post

Why Use the 220V Cruise Cabin Outlet?

Many cruise cabins have a limited number of conveniently placed outlets. Newer ships have generally improved in this area, but older ships and some cabin layouts can still leave several travelers competing for the same plugs.

To accommodate international passengers, many cruise cabins also have a European-style outlet. For North American travelers, that outlet may sit unused for the entire cruise.

A compact Type C adapter can turn it into a usable North American-style receptacle for a compatible charger or electronic device. That does not increase the number of devices one circuit can safely power, but it can make an otherwise unusable outlet available.

Cabin outlet types and voltages can vary by ship and stateroom. Check the outlet and your device before connecting anything.

Royal Caribbean’s Multi-Plug Rule

Royal Caribbean currently prohibits electrical extension cords, power strips and multi-plug outlets. That makes many popular cruise power adapters problematic, including compact adapters that combine several AC outlets with USB charging ports.

The Unidapt adapter has a much simpler design:

  • One European Type C plug
  • One North American-style AC receptacle
  • No extension cord
  • No additional AC outlets
  • No built-in USB ports

Because it provides only a single AC receptacle, it does not appear to be a multi-plug outlet. That makes it a much better match for Royal Caribbean’s current wording than adapters that split one outlet into several AC receptacles.

However, no third-party product can be guaranteed admission onboard. Royal Caribbean states that questionable items remain subject to inspection and that ship security has the final say.

Review the cruise line’s current rules before packing: Royal Caribbean Prohibited Items Policy

Also see our complete writeup: Royal Caribbean Bans Multi-Plug Adapters and Extension Cords

What About Celebrity Cruises?

Celebrity Cruises’ published prohibited-items information specifically lists electrical extension cords. It does not currently provide the same detailed multi-plug language found in Royal Caribbean’s policy.

The Unidapt adapter remains a simple option for Celebrity cabins equipped with a compatible European-style outlet. It has no cord and does not split the outlet into multiple receptacles.

Policies and their onboard interpretation can change, so check Celebrity’s current prohibited-items information before sailing.

Adapter vs. Voltage Converter

This distinction is extremely important: The Unidapt does not convert 220 or 230 volts into 120 volts. It only changes the physical plug configuration.

Many phone, tablet, camera and laptop chargers are designed for worldwide use. Look for wording similar to this on the charger:

Input: 100–240V, 50/60Hz

A charger with that input range is generally designed to accept both North American and European voltages. Do not assume that every electronic device is dual voltage.

Be especially careful with hair dryers, curling tools and other high-wattage appliances. A device marked only for 110 or 120 volts should not be connected directly to a 220 or 230-volt outlet through this adapter.

Check the label, product specifications or manufacturer documentation for every device you plan to connect.

Why This Unidapt Adapter Makes Sense

The Unidapt package currently includes four individual adapters. That gives you extras for other luggage, international travel or future cruises without requiring much packing space.

According to the manufacturer, these adapters:

  • Use the common European Type C plug configuration
  • Provide one North American-style receptacle
  • Are also compatible with many Type E and Type F outlets
  • Work only as plug adapters and do not convert voltage
  • Should be used only with devices rated for the available voltage

The lack of extra features is the main attraction here. On another cruise line, a multi-outlet adapter with USB ports may be more convenient. For Royal Caribbean, the Unidapt’s basic one-plug-to-one-outlet design may be exactly what makes it useful.

It is also handy for regular international travel. Just remember that Type C is not the outlet used everywhere. For example, the United Kingdom and Ireland generally use Type G outlets.

Another Option: A USB-Only Charger

A lot of the electronics we bring on cruises charge through USB. Royal Caribbean’s current rules make an exception for qualifying device and USB chargers carrying recognized U.S. or European conformity markings.

A European USB charging block can therefore be another useful way to take advantage of the cabin’s Type C outlet. Because it has USB outputs but no AC receptacle, it avoids the multi-plug AC outlet issue.

NTONPOWER i-Donut Travel Power Strip: Easy Charging for Hotels, Travel and Cruising – On Sale for $13.97, Save 30%!

NTONPOWER Travel Power Strip

NTONPOWER Travel Power Strip: Easy Charging for Hotels, Travel and Cruising

The NTONPOWER Travel Power Strip is a compact charging hub designed for travelers who need to turn one outlet into a more useful setup. That can be helpful in hotel rooms, airports, dorm rooms, guest rooms and other travel situations where outlets are limited, awkwardly placed or already being used.

This small round power strip includes 3 AC outlets and 3 USB ports, including 1 USB-C port. The built-in short extension cord wraps around the unit for packing, making it a practical option for general travel.

Check Current Price & Availability →

Why This Makes Sense for General Travel

When you travel, the outlet situation is rarely ideal. One outlet may be behind a nightstand. Another may be across the room. In a hotel room, you may have multiple devices to charge but only a small number of convenient places to plug them in.

This NTONPOWER unit helps by giving you one compact charging spot for common travel electronics like:

  • Phones
  • Smart watches
  • Tablets
  • Bluetooth headphones
  • Camera batteries
  • E-readers
  • Small USB-powered accessories

The round shape also works well on a desk or nightstand. Instead of having chargers spread across the room, you can keep your daily devices in one place.

Compact Cord Wrap Design

The built-in 3-foot cord wraps around the power strip, which helps keep things tidy in your bag. That is a big advantage over a standard household power strip with a long dangling cord.

The short cord also gives you a little flexibility when the outlet is tucked behind furniture or located in an awkward spot. It is not a long extension cord, but it is enough to move the charging hub to a more useful position on a nightstand, desk or counter.

Again, that cord is also part of the reason I would be careful about packing this for a cruise.

What to Know Before Buying

This is a compact travel power strip, not a heavy-duty appliance strip. The listing specifically warns not to use it with high-power items like hair dryers or steam irons. That makes sense. This is best for small electronics and chargers, not heat-producing appliances.

Also, while the USB-C port is a nice addition, this is not the same thing as a high-watt USB-C laptop charger. I would think of the built-in USB ports as convenient charging ports for smaller travel devices.

If you are purchasing this for an upcoming cruise, double check with your cruise line’s prohibited items policy to make sure it’s allowed. It is surge protector free, which should make it compliant for most cruise lines. Two standouts are Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises. See below for more on that.

Bottom Line

The NTONPOWER Travel Power Strip is a useful travel accessory for hotels, guest rooms, dorms and general travel situations where you need a more convenient charging spot. The compact round design, 3 AC outlets, 3 USB ports and wraparound cord make it easy to pack and easy to use.

For cruises, though, I would be careful. Because this has multiple AC outlets and a cord, it may not be allowed on Royal Caribbean, Celebrity and possibly other cruise lines.

What Are Others Saying? Search this product’s Amazon reviews for “cruise” – may include reviews for other sizes or variations.

Important Cruise Warning: This May Not Be Allowed (Royal and Celebrity Cruisers)

For cruises, this is where things get more complicated. Even though this NTONPOWER model is listed as a non-surge protector travel power strip, it still has multiple AC outlets and an extension-style cord. That combination may be a problem on some cruise lines.

Royal Caribbean has specifically added multi-plug adapters, multi-plug outlets, power strips and extension cords to its prohibited items language. Based on that policy, I would not pack this for a Royal Caribbean cruise. For more details, see our writeup: Royal Caribbean Bans Multi-Plug Adapters and Extension Cords.

Celebrity Cruises is also a concern. Celebrity’s packing guidance recommends bringing a lightweight multi-USB charger and says not to bring a regular power strip. Since this NTONPOWER unit has multiple AC outlets and a cord, I would also consider it a risky choice for Celebrity.

Bottom line: this may be useful for hotels and general travel, but I would be cautious about packing it for a cruise. Always check your cruise line’s current prohibited items list before bringing any power strip, extension cord or multi-plug adapter.

Anker Nano Travel Adapter for Travel and Cruises

Anker Nano Travel Adapter: Compact 5-Port Charger for Travel and Cruises

Anker Nano Travel Adapter

I purchased the Anker Nano Travel Adapter for a trip to Europe, and it has turned out to be a very useful travel adapter. What I like most is the combination of compact size, good build quality and broad usability. It is small enough to pack easily, but still gives you multiple charging options in one travel-friendly device.

This is the kind of travel accessory that can simplify your charging setup. Instead of packing several small USB chargers and separate country-specific plug adapters, this gives you one compact adapter with built-in plug options, USB-C ports, USB-A ports and an AC outlet.

For general travel, international trips, hotels, airports and some cruise cabin charging situations, that makes a lot of sense. For cruise travel in particular, it can also be useful because some cabins include a European-style outlet in addition to a North American outlet. With the right adapter and compatible electronics, that extra outlet can become a helpful charging option.

Check Current Price & Availability →

Why This Makes Sense for Travel

Modern travel usually means charging multiple devices. Phones, tablets, earbuds, smart watches, cameras, battery banks and e-readers all need power at some point. The Anker Nano Travel Adapter gives you several charging options in one small package.

It includes 2 USB-C ports, 2 USB-A ports and 1 AC outlet. That makes it useful for travelers who still have a mix of newer USB-C cables and older USB-A cables.

The compact design is also helpful. Travel bags fill up quickly, and a smaller adapter is easier to pack than a bulky universal adapter or a collection of individual chargers.

Good Uses for Trips and Cruises

  • International travel: Built-in plug support makes it useful across many common travel destinations.
  • Hotel rooms: Helpful when outlets are limited or awkwardly placed.
  • Cruise cabins: Potentially useful for making use of a European-style Type C outlet, depending on your cruise line’s current rules.
  • Airports and layovers: Useful for topping off phones, earbuds, tablets and battery banks.
  • Family travel: Helps reduce the number of individual charging blocks you need to pack.
  • One-bag travel: A small, consolidated charging setup can save space and reduce clutter.

What Plug Types Does It Support?

The Anker Nano Travel Adapter supports four common wall plug types: Type A, Type C, Type G and Type I. That gives it broad usefulness for international travel, hotels, airports and many cruise cabins with European-style outlets.

  • Type A: Common in the United States, Canada, Japan, Mexico and other North American, Central American and Caribbean destinations.
  • Type C: Common across much of Europe and often useful with European-style outlets found in many cruise cabins.
  • Type G: Common in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia and the UAE/Dubai.
  • Type I: Common in Australia, New Zealand, China and Argentina.

As always, check the specific outlet type for your destination before you travel. Outlet types can vary by country, region, hotel, ship and even by room.

Related: European Cruise Packing List: What to Pack & Why

Larger Countries and Regions Where This Can Be Useful

Anker Nano Travel Adapter Country Compatibility

Because this adapter supports several common plug types, it can be useful in many larger and frequently visited destinations. Examples include:

  • United States and Canada: Type A
  • Mexico: Type A
  • Japan: Type A
  • United Kingdom: Type G
  • Ireland: Type G
  • France, Germany, Italy, Spain and much of Europe: Type C-style two-pin compatibility is commonly useful, though outlet designs vary.
  • Singapore and Hong Kong: Type G
  • United Arab Emirates / Dubai: Type G
  • Australia and New Zealand: Type I
  • China: Type I and other outlet types may be encountered.
  • Argentina: Type I is commonly used.

This is one reason a multi-plug adapter can be useful for general travel. It can reduce the number of separate plug adapters you need to pack.

Helpful for Cruise Ship European Outlets

Related: Hands on Review: TESSAN International Power Plug with USB

One of the most useful cruise-specific features is the Type C plug support. This can allow you to make use of a European-style Type C outlet in your cruise cabin instead of relying only on the North American outlet.

That can be a big help because cruise cabins often have limited outlets, and some ships include a European-style 220V outlet near the desk or vanity. With the right adapter and the right device, that outlet can become useful for charging phones, tablets, earbuds, smart watches, e-readers, battery banks and other small electronics.

Note that this is not a voltage converter. Many modern electronics and USB chargers are designed to operate in the 220 volt range, but you should always check the label on your charger or device before plugging it in. For lots more about this, see: Cruise Ship Power Solutions – Making Use of the 220 Volt Cabin Outlet On Your Next Cruise.

Based on Royal Caribbean’s updated banned-items policy, this type of multi-plug adapter may not be allowed on Royal Caribbean sailings. See: Royal Caribbean Bans Multi-Plug Adapters and Extension Cords! On a recent European cruise, we took our adapters along but did not use them in the cabin.

USB-C and USB-A Charging

One thing I like about this style of adapter is that it supports both USB-C and USB-A. A lot of travel gear is moving to USB-C, but plenty of cables and accessories still use USB-A. Having both port types can make this more flexible than a USB-C-only charger.

The USB-C port can provide up to 20W when charging a single compatible device. That is useful for phones, earbuds, e-readers, smart watches and similar travel electronics. When multiple USB ports are used at the same time, the available USB power is shared across connected devices.

The main downside is that the AC outlet is not a grounded 3-prong outlet. That means it is not a good fit for grounded laptop chargers, some larger power bricks, UK 3-pin plugs, EU Schuko-style grounded plugs or other devices that require a grounded AC connection. For USB charging and small travel electronics, that may not matter. For travelers who need grounded AC plug support, a larger universal adapter may be a better fit.

Compared to a Larger Universal Travel Adapter

Anker Nano Travel Adapter Size Comparison

I own this Anker Nano Travel Adapter along with another, larger universal travel adapter. Both can be useful, but they pack very differently.

The Anker is the slimmer and lighter option. It is listed at about 3.39 x 1.97 x 0.98 inches and 3.77 ounces. That thin shape makes it easier to slide into a tech pouch, backpack pocket, carry-on organizer or personal item. If you are trying to keep your travel charging setup compact, that slim profile is one of the biggest advantages.

By comparison, the larger TESSAN-style universal adapter I own is more cube-shaped. It is listed at about 2.44 x 2.17 x 2.09 inches and 5.45 ounces. It is shorter than the Anker, but it is also thicker, heavier and takes up more space in a bag.

Adapter Listed Size Listed Weight Best Packing Advantage
Anker Nano Travel Adapter 3.39 x 1.97 x 0.98 in 3.77 oz Slimmer and lighter
TESSAN Universal Travel Adapter 2.44 x 2.17 x 2.09 in 5.45 oz Shorter, but thicker

The practical difference is easy to understand once both are in your hand. The Anker is better when I want something thin and easy to pack. The larger adapter takes up more room, but it can be useful when I want extra AC outlet flexibility.

For general travel, hotels, flights and lighter packing, I like the Anker’s slimmer shape. The tradeoff is that the Anker does not support grounded 3-prong AC plugs. For situations where grounded plug support or extra AC outlet flexibility matters more than compact size, the larger adapter still has a place. Which one makes more sense depends on whether your priority is smaller packing size or more AC outlet flexibility.

Either way, remember that travel adapters like these are not voltage converters. They adapt plug shapes and provide charging options, but your electronics still need to be compatible with the voltage available at your destination or on your cruise ship.

Not a Voltage Converter

This is an important point for international travel and cruising: the Anker Nano Travel Adapter is not a voltage converter. It adapts the plug shape and provides USB charging, but it does not convert 220V power to 110V or 110V power to 220V.

For small electronics and USB-powered devices, that is usually not a problem because many modern chargers are designed for worldwide input. Look for wording on your charger or device such as Input: 100-240V. That generally means the device is designed to work across common international voltage ranges.

For higher-wattage items like hair dryers, curling irons, flat irons, travel kettles or other heat-producing devices, check the device label carefully before using it internationally. Those devices are often where voltage compatibility becomes more important.

When in doubt, use the charger or power supply that came with the device and confirm that it supports the voltage at your destination.

Important Cruise Policy Note

Cruise line rules for power accessories vary, especially when it comes to surge protection, power strips, extension cords and multi-plug outlets. Because policies vary by cruise line, ship and sailing, you should check your cruise line’s current prohibited items policy before packing any power accessory.

For cruise cabin charging, USB-only chargers and cruise-line-compliant adapters may be the safer choice if your cruise line restricts multi-plug or surge-protected devices. This adapter can be useful for general travel and hotels, but it should not be assumed to be approved for every cruise line or every ship.

Check Current Price & Availability →

Smart Temperature Control

This adapter also includes smart temperature control. That is a useful feature for a compact travel adapter because charging multiple devices in a small space can generate heat.

Even with built-in protections, it is still a good idea to use common sense. Do not cover chargers while they are in use, avoid using damaged cables and unplug devices when charging is complete.

Good Fit for Light and Moderate Charging

The Anker Nano Travel Adapter is best suited for the small electronics most travelers carry every day. Phones, earbuds, watches, tablets, e-readers, cameras and portable battery banks are the kinds of devices that make sense with this adapter.

For laptops, larger USB-C devices or travelers who need high-speed charging for multiple power-hungry devices at once, a dedicated higher-wattage USB-C charger may still be worth packing. But for a compact travel adapter that can handle everyday charging, this is a useful setup.

Bottom Line

The Anker Nano Travel Adapter is a practical travel accessory for anyone who wants a compact way to handle international plug compatibility and everyday USB charging. I purchased this for a trip to Europe, and I like it because it is compact, well built and broadly useful for travel.

With Type A, Type C, Type G and Type I plug support, plus 2 USB-C ports, 2 USB-A ports and 1 AC outlet, it can reduce the number of chargers and adapters you need to pack. I especially like the slimmer shape compared to larger cube-style universal adapters. The larger adapter still has a place when grounded plug support or extra AC outlet flexibility matters, but the Anker is easier to pack when I want a compact travel charging setup.

For general travel, hotels, international trips and airports, this is a handy option to consider. For cruises, the Type C plug support may help you use a European-style cabin outlet, but be sure to check your cruise line’s current power accessory rules before packing it.

Hands on Review: TESSAN International Power Plug with USB… Use the 220 Outlet on Your Next Cruise!

Many cruise cabins have a common problem… lack of outlets. This has generally gotten better with newer ships, but can still be an issue. Even newer ships that have more cabin outlets, the outlets can be placed in such a way as to limit their usability. If two outlets are too close together… you can only use one.

To accommodate European travelers cruise lines will often include one or more 220 volt outlets. If you’re used to using three prong 120 volt electronics this outlet will most likely go unused.

One way to stretch out the outlets on your next cruise is to… use the 220 volt outlet.

This is a hands on look at the Tessan Type C Outlet Adapter with USB Ports

This adapter will allow you to make use of a European Type C outlet on your next cruise! Note that this is not a voltage converter. Many electronics are designed to operate in the 220 volt range.

Check Current Price & Availability:

A look at the box. As the box indicates this is a Type C Adapter. This is the outlet style that is in most cruise ship cabins.

Out of the box

Mine came with a sticker over the outlet with some important information…. “This adapter does not convert voltage. AC devices must support dual voltage 100-250V. Check from your device surface or label, especially hair dryer, curling iron, CPAP machine.”

Voltage adapters are generally compact and reasonably priced. Adapters only adapt the plug. They do not convert 220v to 120v. Voltage converters actually step down voltage from 220v to 120v. Those are generally bulkier and more expensive.

A 120v device (only) device will not work on a 220v outlet with an adapter, but… many of your devices may actually be rated for both 120v and 220v.

A look at the front of the adapter. It sports a three prong North American style outlet and two USB ports. When it comes to USB devices this adapter steps down and converts power and should work with most USB devices.

This is the adapter on Royal Caribbean’s Adventure of the Seas. Adventure only offers two x 120 volt outlets and 0 USB ports. The 220 outlet is to the right right side of the desk in our Jr Suite Stateroom.

The type C Adapter fits perfectly in the outlet

Close up

This is my 4 in 1 cable plugged into the adapter. This cable has been very helpful since I upgraded to iPhone 15 with USB C charging port. Since some of my devices still use Lightning style ports, this cable allows me to change all of my iOS devices (and more) with a single cable. It goes from USB A or USB C to Lightning or USB C. Whammo!  This is my smaller cable that I essentially keep as a backup. I also have a 3 foot cable and a 5 foot cable.

With my laptop charger, iPhone and iPad plugged in

How can you tell if your device will work with an adapter? Many devices are actually setup to use either voltage. As an example take a look at this laptop power charger. It’s designed to accept 100 volts up to 240 volts.

Tessan also makes a double outlet adapter. Here’s that installed on Royal Caribbean’s Odyssey of the Seas

Conclusions

This is a relatively cheap upgrade that makes cabin life easier. It has become a must-pack item for all our cruises. Utilizing the European style outlet seems like magic. Just make sure that your devices support dual voltage which is an easy thing to do.

Save an Outlet on Your Next Cruise… Rechargeable Motion Sensor Night Lights for Cruise Cabins

Lyridz Rechargeable Night Light, Motion Sensor Battery Night Light, Mini Stick-on LED Closet Light, 1-20LM Dimmable Brightness for Bedroom, Kitchen, Washroom, Stairs, Hallway, 3-Pack

Lyridz Rechargeable Motion Sensor Night Lights for Cruise Cabins

The Lyridz Rechargeable Motion Sensor Night Lights are a smart cruise cabin lighting option because they do not need to stay plugged into a wall outlet. That matters on a cruise, where outlets can be limited, oddly placed or already spoken for by phones, watches, tablets, cameras and other travel gear.

Because these night lights are rechargeable, they are especially useful in one of the darkest places in many cruise cabins: the bathroom. A lot of cruise cabin bathrooms do not have a convenient outlet, and even when they do, it may not be where you would want a night light. A small rechargeable motion-sensing light gives you more flexibility.

Check Current Price & Availability →

Why These Make Sense for a Cruise Cabin

A cruise cabin can be very dark at night, especially if you are in an interior room or if the curtains are closed tight. Turning on the main bathroom light in the middle of the night can be jarring. A small motion-sensing night light can give you just enough light to find your way without fully waking yourself up.

The rechargeable design is the big advantage here. You are not using a cabin outlet all night, and you are not forced to place the light wherever an outlet happens to be. That opens up more useful placement options, including near the bathroom door, inside the bathroom, on a shelf, near the floor or along the path from the bed to the bathroom.

Rechargeable Means No Precious Outlet Needed

One of the most common cruise cabin problems is outlet scarcity. Between phones, smart watches, battery banks, cameras, tablets, fans, white-noise machines and other travel gear, it is easy to run out of charging space.

Since these Lyridz night lights are rechargeable, they can be charged before your cruise or topped off during the day, then used at night without occupying a wall outlet. That is a practical advantage over plug-in night lights, especially in older cabins or layouts where outlets are not near the bathroom.

Great for the Cruise Cabin Bathroom

The cruise cabin bathroom is often the exact place where you want a night light, but it is also a place that often does not have a useful outlet. A rechargeable stick-on style night light solves that problem nicely.

Put one where it can sense motion as you enter the bathroom or approach the bathroom door. The goal is not to flood the room with light. The goal is to provide enough soft light to move around safely without blasting yourself with the main bathroom fixture in the middle of the night.

Motion Sensing is a Nice Travel Feature

Motion sensing is useful because the light only needs to come on when you need it. That can help conserve battery life and makes the light more convenient than something you have to manually turn on and off every time.

For cruise use, that can be especially handy overnight. Walk toward the bathroom, the light comes on. Leave the area, and it turns itself off after a short period. Simple and practical.

USB-C Charging is a Welcome Upgrade

These appear to be very similar to the rechargeable motion-sensing night lights I already use, with one notable exception: these use USB-C charging instead of micro USB.

That is a nice upgrade for travel. So many current phones, tablets, battery banks and other accessories now use USB-C that you may not need to bring an extra cable just for your night lights. Fewer oddball cables is always a win when packing for a cruise.

Suggested Cruise Uses

  • Bathroom night light: place one inside or just outside the bathroom so you do not need to turn on the bright overhead light at night.
  • Path light: place one low near the walkway from the bed to the bathroom.
  • Closet or cabinet light: use one to help find items in a dark cabin closet.
  • Interior cabin light: add a small amount of light to a room that gets no natural light at night.
  • Travel night light: use one before and after the cruise in hotels, rentals or road-trip stops.

A Few Placement Tips

Before sticking anything to a cabin surface, think through where it will be useful, secure and easy to remove. Avoid placing a light where it could fall into the sink, shower or toilet. Also avoid spots where it could be bumped loose during the night.

If using adhesive pads, be careful with cabin walls, mirrors, furniture and finished surfaces. A magnetic surface or a temporary placement may be a better option when available. If in doubt, ask your room steward.

Pair with a Smart Cruise Power Setup

A rechargeable night light pairs nicely with a smart cabin charging setup. Use the outlets you do have for the gear that truly needs power, then let small rechargeable accessories handle jobs like night lighting.

Also see: Making Use of the 220 Volt Cabin Outlet

Bottom Line

The Lyridz Rechargeable Motion Sensor Night Lights look like a very practical cruise cabin upgrade. The rechargeable design means they do not tie up a valuable outlet, the motion sensing makes them easy to use overnight, and USB-C charging is a welcome travel-friendly improvement.

For cruise cabins, the biggest benefit may be placement flexibility. Instead of being forced to use an outlet-based night light in the main cabin area, you can put light where you actually need it most: near or inside the bathroom.

Cabins and older hotel rooms can be light on convenient outlets, and international trips add plug-shape compatibility to the list of things that can go wrong. A compact universal adapter that also handles everyday USB charging helps you keep phones, earbuds, watches, cameras, and other essentials powered up without packing a bag of wall bricks.

Why This Is Handy for Cruises

  • Cabins can be outlet-limited: A single adapter that consolidates charging can help you keep your bedside/table setup tidy.
  • Like a magic extra outlet: Making use of the the Type-C European outlet that’s available in most cruise cabins is like getting a magical extra outlet.
  • Works beyond the ship: Great for pre- or post-cruise time in port cities (especially if you’re hopping countries). This works in 200+ countries!
  • One-item convenience: Instead of carrying multiple plug adapters and USB blocks, you can simplify to one compact solution.

What to Look For in a “Cruise-Friendly” Power Adapter

Cruise lines often restrict certain high-risk electrical items. In general, you’ll want a travel adapter that’s compact, dependable, and designed for charging electronics—not running high-wattage appliances. Here are the practical checkpoints:

  • No surge protection (often preferred for cruises): Many cruise lines prohibit surge-protected power strips. A simple adapter is usually the safer bet versus a surge strip.
  • USB charging built in: Lets you charge multiple small devices without stacking bulky chargers.
  • Solid fit: A wobbly adapter in a loose outlet is frustrating in a moving cabin.
  • Use-case clarity: Travel adapters change plug shape; they do not automatically convert voltage for high-wattage devices like hair dryers.
  • Not for Royal or Celebrity: This says cruise approved and also (as of this update) says it works on Royal. That’s outdated information. See: Royal Bans Multi-plug Adapters

Best Uses (Cruise + Beyond)

  • Cruise cabins: Nightstand charging station for phones, watches, and portable batteries.
  • International hotels: Plug compatibility + USB charging in one footprint.
  • Airport lounges: A compact way to claim one outlet and power multiple devices.
  • Work travel: Keeps your laptop bag lighter by reducing “charger sprawl.”

Tips to Avoid Common Travel Power Mistakes

  • This is not a converter: This is not a voltage converter. Your electronics must support 220–240V input. Many modern chargers are dual-voltage, but always check the label before plugging in.
  • Bring at least one backup: A small spare cable (or spare charging method) can save the day if one fails.
  • Label your stuff: Adapters are easy to forget in hotel rooms—especially when they’re compact.

Hands on Review: European Type C Fast USB Charger by LiFiYiRc… Use the 220 Outlet on Your Next Cruise!

This is a hands on look at the LiFiYiRc European Type C Mult Port Charging Block PD20W

This will allow you to make use of a European Type C outlet on your next cruise! Because it’s a USB charger there’s no need to check for AC 220/240 compatibility. That’s a requirement for many of the adapters featured on CPL. For lots more about this see: Cruise Ship Power Solutions – Making Use of the 220 Volt Cabin Outlet On Your Next Cruise

Attention Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises:

This was reviewed, in part, on Royal Caribbean ships prior to their change in policy, banning multi-plug adapters. See article below. The way I interpret the policy, this should still be allowed since it does not have an AC outlet.

Laying down

A look at the ports. Unfortunately I had this upside down when I took this photo. Oh well… guess I have to go back on Odyssey! 🙂  If this were right side up the ports would be labeled PD20W, QC3.0, PD15W, 3.1A and 3.1A

Hey look…. these two prongs match the European style outlet on Odyssey!

Plugged in!

Loaded up with cables charging stuff!  The shows two 4 in 1 style USB charging cables. One in USB-A mode and one is USB-C mode (charging my laptop) along with a standard USB-A cable.

This can charge multiple items up to and including compatible laptops. My Dell XPS laptop has a 130 watt charger so this 65 watt charger is under powered although it was able to charge it at a slower rate. I wouldn’t leave the laptop charger at home, but this would work in a pinch.

Conclusions

This is a relatively cheap upgrade that makes cabin life easier. European type C devices have become must-pack items for all our cruises. Utilizing the European style outlet seems like magic. If you don’t have a European type C charger of some sort in your cruise gear, it’s a slam dunk. There are a number of styles to choose from. This is a great choice because of the ubiquity of USB devices and ease of use.

Cruise on Royal Caribbean?

Royal Caribbean recently added multi outlet adapters to their banned items list. There are three main ways that I can see to work around this…

  1. A single outlet European C to US converter
  2. Multi USB port charging block
  3. A power bank. Charge the power bank when you’re out and about during the day. Use it in the evening to charge phones and such and free up an outlet.

Hands on Review: Auvon Rechargeable Night Lights + The Problem with Cruise Ship Bathrooms at Night

A lot of cruise packing lists, blogs and videos recommend packing a night light for your next cruise vacation and for good reason cabins can get dark at night, especially interior cabins. A night light can help prevent you from bumping into things.

What About the Lack of Outlets?

The problem is… Traditional night lights take up an outlet. Outlets can be a precious commodity in your cruise ship cabin with some cabins having as little as… 1 outlet. This has generally gotten better with newer ships, but can still be an issue. Even newer ships that have more cabin outlets, the outlets can be placed in such a way as to limit their usability. If two outlets are too close together… you can only use one.

One potential solution to this problem is a 220v night light. These utilize an often ignored and unused 220v outlet that is present in many cabins.

Another solution is a rechargeable night light. Since they’re rechargeable they don’t take up an outlet after they’ve been charged.

This is particularly helpful when it comes to cabin bathrooms. Very often these have 0 usable outlets.

The problem with cruise ship bathrooms at night

A rechargeable night light is also great for one particular trouble spot in your cabin… your cabin bathroom. Some cabin bathrooms are completely dark. Like… completely dark. Also a lot of times the light switch is on on the outside of the bathroom. To avoid being trapped in a small dark box you need to turn on the light before entering and potentially disturb your cabin mate. Also that much light can have a tendency to wake a person up. Okay, so… plug in a night light? Think again, most cabin bathrooms don’t have an outlet.

An illustration of the dark cruise ship cabin bathroom

This is a video of me going from my bed into the bathroom with no lights on. There’s not much to the video, except for sound as it’s completely black because the room is so dark. The video was taken on Royal Caribbean’s Adventure of the Seas in a Jr Suite.

A picture to illustrate. This is the bathroom on Royal Caribbean’s Adventure of the Seas with no lights on.

This is the door to the bathroom. As you can see, the light switch is on the outside of the door. That’s the case with most/all cruise ship cabins we’ve been in. So, let’s say you get up in the middle of the night and stumble your way over to this bathroom door. In order to have any amount of light in the bathroom you need to turn on the switch before entering. That means you’ve flooded your cabin with light and potentially woken someone up. Beyond that, when you get in the bathroom you’ll be in a completely lit room and that can make it more difficult to fall back asleep.

This is a video of me going from my bed into the bathroom with this rechargeable night light on. As you can see… this is a MUCH better experience. The video was taken on Royal Caribbean’s Adventure of the Seas in a Jr Suite.

A photo with the night light on. This is a much better experience all around. No fumbling for the switch, no flooding the cabin with light. Just a small amount of always on light .

Back of the box

It came with a manual and charging cable. I did not receiving a charging box. This can be used with any standard USB charging box.

Auvon USB rechargeable night light

A look at the back. These are magnetic. They also come with an installable base so they can be mounted on non magnetic surfaces. For cruise ship cabins, walls are generally made of metal, so no base is needed.

A look at the controls. The switch on the left let’s you choose between auto, on and off. The button on the right changes the light’s brightness. For the bathroom I set it to on and low light level. Mine easily lasted a week on one charge, leaving it on every night.

Turned on

All cruise ship cabin walls are generally made of metal. Here’s the Auvon rechargeable night light above the bathroom light switch on Royal Caribbean’s Adventure of the Seas

Conclusions

These are a must-pack item when we travel, especially when we cruise. They are small, have a long battery life and are easy to charge. For cruises in particular these are an easy solution to two problems. First, outlets are generally in short supply. These don’t need an outlet. Second, some cruise ship cabins can be a little hazardous at night. Having these to add a little bit of light to dark spots is a huge help. Especially when it comes to the bathroom.

Lack of power solutions in cruise ship cabins

#1 Use the 220 Outlet(s)

To accommodate European travelers cruise lines will often include one or more 220 volt outlets. If you’re used to using three prong 120 volt electronics this outlet will most likely go unused.

One way to stretch out the outlets on your next cruise is to… use the 220 volt outlet.

What style is the 220 volt outlet on cruise ships?

European Type C seems to be the standard style on cruise ships. This may vary, but it seems to be fairly standard.

Some Adapters and Devices to Consider:

#2 Use An Approved Power Strip

Cruise Essentials Power Strip USB - Flat Plug Power Strip with 3 Outlets 3 USB Ports(1 USB C PD20W), 5ft Braided Extension Cord, Compact for Cruise Ship, Travel, Home and DormPictured: Cruise Essentials Power Strip USB – Flat Plug Power Strip with 3 Outlets 3 USB Ports(1 USB C PD20W), 5ft Braided Extension Cord, Compact for Cruise Ship, Travel, Home and Dorm

Most cruise lines allow the use of certain power strips. Generally speaking one thing you want to look for is a power strip that DOES NOT offer surge protection. Double check with your cruise line for specifics on what’s allowed on your ship.

#3 Use an Outlet Extender

A similar solution as using a power strip, but more compact and outlet extender to split one power outlet into multiple outlets. Some include USB outlets.

#4 Use a Rechargeable Night Light

Using a rechargeable night light means no outlet is taken up most of the time. This is particularly helpful for bathrooms as those usually have 0 outlets.

#5 Use a USB Night Light

USB night lights plug into a USB port. That means no outlet taken up. They could go on a laptop, USB wall charger or power bank.

#6 Check the Phone

Many newer or remodeled cruise ships offer a USB charging port on the phone. This is the phone that was in our cabin on Royal Caribbean’s Odyssey of the Seas.

#7 Use Rechargeable… Everything

When you’re making decisions on cruise gear considering opting for rechargeable items. These don’t constantly take up an outlet or USB port and when charged, they aren’t tethered to wherever an outlet happens to be.

#8 Use a Rechargeable Power Bank

Using a rechargeable power bank gives you a de facto outlet (at least for USB devices) anywhere in your cabin. Beyond charging you can power loads of other USB compatible gear anywhere in your cabin.

All About Night Lights for Your Next Cruise!

A lot of cruise packing lists, blogs and videos recommend packing a night light for your next cruise vacation and for good reason cabins can get dark at night, especially interior cabins. A night light can help prevent you from bumping into things.

What about the lack of outlets?

One problem to consider is… Traditional night lights take up an outlet.

Some options…

  • 220v night light. These utilize an often ignored and unused 220v outlet that is present in many cabins.
  • USB night lights – These plug into a USB port. That means no outlet taken up. They could go on a laptop, USB wall charger or power bank.
  • Rechargeable night light. Since they’re rechargeable they don’t take up an outlet after they’ve been charged.

Rechargeable night lights are particularly helpful when it comes to cabin bathrooms. Very often these have 0 usable outlets…

Why a Power Bank is a must pack item for trips to Europe

Anker 621 Magnetic Portable Charger (MagGo), 5,000mAh Wireless Power Bank with USB-C Cable, Magsafe-Compatible Battery Pack for iPhone 16/15/14/13/12 Series

Pictured: Anker 621 Magnetic Portable Charger (MagGo), 5,000mAh Wireless Power Bank

We just returned for our first European cruise.  It was… fabulous. We spent several days in London ahead of the cruise. Visited Hamburg Germany, Bruges Belgium, Copenhagen Denmark and Oslo Norway on the cruise. Finally we spent two days in Paris prior to coming home. It was amazing!

In our extensive preparations for this trip we spent a lot of time deciding what to pack. We wanted to keep the size and weight of our luggage down to make the trip easier. We cut deep leaving a lot of things behind that we would normally take for something like a Caribbean cruise.

When we got to the subject of a power bank I said to my wife… we don’t need it. My laptop functions as a power bank. The plane will have outlets and everyplace we go will have outlets. Let’s save the weight and leave it behind.

She (very wisely) said… no, I’m taking it.

Fast forward to day one of our time in London and it’s very clear my phone is not going to make it through the day. I switched to low power mode and eventually moved to her phone for directions, trying to saving the last bits of battery on my phone to be able to access tickets and our itinerary.

We were constantly using phones for directions, to view our itinerary and to access tickets. I think there’s something else at play too. Something about a US phone being in Europe. I think my phone was constantly looking for Verizon towers to save Verizon roaming fees. That’s a theory, but whatever was happening, I went through battery at an astounding rate.

After the first day, I carried out battery bank every single day and used it every single day. I’m going to call a power bank a must have for European trips.
